About this ebook

This is just a simple ghost story. It features a backpacker sitting beside a campfire and a mysterious visitor who never quite comes into the light. Rather minimalistic, you might say.

The inspiration came from my own experiences camping in forests at night and realizing that anything could be lurking in the dark beyond the firelight.

Who am I? I'm a lover of sci-fi and fantasy fiction as well as a fan of classic movies. I'm a self-proclaimed royal historian of Oz as well as the self-proclaimed emperor of Canada and, yes, I'm completely full of it. I like to think that I'm a sterling example of person with Asperger's syndrome. It may be more trouble than it's worth but it lends me and my writing a distinctive perspective. I live in the real-life fairy country along the border between Delaware and Pennsylvania. Although, during the summers, I like to throw on a backpack and go walking among the mountains.

[What follows is a typed copy of a backpacker's journal. The original is handwritten in a pocket sized notebook. It was found among the periodicals of a university library. Who put it there and why is anyone's guess. The library has no record of it. The identity of the author is unknown.]

People think I'm crazy for doing this but I'm doing it anyway. Starting first thing in the morning, I'm going backpacking in the Miskatonic Mountains. They're said to be haunted. This is going to be fun. Of course, that's exactly what T.E. Lawrence said just before going into the Arabian Desert and we all know how that turned out. Never mind that, however; this is going to be fun.

Right now, I'm spending the night in a cheap motel
