I got my start writing romance novels by accident. I have always been drawn to strong female characters in books, like Honor Harrington. And I also believe that there is a lack of LGBT characters in media. So one day I came up with a story idea that combines the two... two days later I completed the manuscript for Music of the Soul.My writing style may not be the most professional nor grammatically correct, but I never profess to be an English major, just a person that wants to share a story. I maintain that my primary language is sarcasm. Each of my books features strong likeable female characters that are flawed. I think that flaws and emotional or physical scars make us human and give us more character than simply conforming to some "social norm".I have also started a SciFi series, The Valkyrie Chronicles which features a Valkyrie, Kara, who was left behind on Earth five thousand years ago to help the Asgard race escape the onslaught of the Ragnarok horde. With the aid of a human, Kate, she holds the line in battle to herald the return of the Asgard! If you like magic, paranormal romance and witches, then my new series Fracture might tickle your fancy. In the first book Fracture: Divergence, Alex King must stop magic from destroying reality. The problem is that Alex must solve the case in parallel universes where in one Alex is male and female in the other. There is even a modern shapeshifter paranormal series, Drakon. Featuring a fiery Irish woman with a sharp wit and sharper temper who finds out she is a dragon of legend.

The Paranormals - Erik Schubach
Chapter 1 – A Day In The Life
I was kicked back on the couch listening to my jam on my headphones as I did my homework. Mom wanted it done by the time she got home from work because the Tanner's across the street invited us over to a barbecue for Cindy's eighteenth birthday. I was all for that, I had been avoiding my best friend for a couple days at school. Because of my, ummm, condition. The effects are probably wearing off by now.
I grinned. Yeah, I like that, I'll call it my condition. Good one Violet. I absently reached over for my soda as I tried to solve a quadratic equation for Mrs. Templeton's class. I mean really, when could I possibly ever find myself in a situation in life where I would need to solve a quadratic equation? I chuckled at the word 'life' as I sucked on my soda.
I blinked rapidly as my mouth was filled with warm flavor and an excited shiver went through my body. A hunger ignited, and I looked quickly down at the hamster in my hand. Oh come on! Not again!
I set Blinky down beside my soda by the other two hamsters, Inky, and Clyde, as I watched the two puncture wounds on his side from my fangs quickly heal. They all looked up at me with wide eyes, and I swear they were all smiling.
Just great, he's a thrall again. I swear these little brats do that on purpose like they know when I need blood and jockey for position. Just one week, one week I'd like to go without drinking blood or making something or someone a thrall.
That was it for me. I licked my lips savoring the warm blood. I closed my math book, turned off my music and washed the blood down with the last of my soda. I stood up and headed to my bedroom to get ready for the barbecue. I glanced back as I walked down the hall to see my three hamsters and two rabbits following me like lovesick puppies. My thralls.
I just sighed as I held the door open for them to file in then I said wearily, Get in your cages you little stinkers, I need to get dressed.
They all obediently hopped into their cages.
God, I was a sucky vampire. Well not really a real vampire, I couldn't even do that right. Miss Truman down the block had turned me, to save me from dying after she accidentally hit me with her car when I was walking home from a sleepover at Cindy's two years ago.
Who knew she was a vampire? She was such a nice lady. There weren't many unregistered vampires in all of Vancouver, BC. The vampire gene was one of the more exotic mutations that started showing up in people after The Incident
caused some sort of rupture in space near the moon fifty-three years ago, and the Earth was bathed in some sort of radiation they couldn't identify, cracking the moon. Scientists say it was the experimental, mile long particle collider built in orbit at LaGrange point L1 that caused it. But the US government adamantly denies it. Yeah, sure.
The two most common effects of the gene were to either give people the ability to shapeshift into animals, they are called shifters, like my friend Steph at school. Everyone calls her Fleas. Or gave others the ability to channel the magic from the quantum flux fields that powered them to cast a wide array of magic spells. Jinxy, Jessica, is one, but her magic is always going haywire because she is a Stringer and will gain her control later in life.
Then there are the more rare and exotic mutations, vampirism and ghouls are among those. Since vampires are not too dangerous and are closely monitored by the government, they are allowed out in public. But ghouls are contained the moment they are detected. A kid with the ghoul genetic marker almost always goes on a rampage, unable to sate his hunger for violent emotions. They leave a trail of bodies behind.
Anyway, as I was saying, Miss Truman had been rushing home to beat the sunrise. She didn't know what to do after she had inadvertently run me down as I crossed the street. The ambulance was too far away when she called 911, so she tried to turn me. She figured that a life as a vampire was better than no life at all.
She got most of the way through with the process when the sun started to rise. Now the sun doesn't kill vampires as quickly as in the story books or on television, but it is excruciating to them and does burn and boil any exposed skin after a minute or two. It would take almost a full day to kill one of them with it. It takes them weeks, and a few volunteer blood donors to snack on, to heal the burns caused by sun exposure.
She tried to endure that pain as the sun rose, and she stayed as long as she could before the burning was too unbearable, then she dove in her car and drove the last hundred yards home.
Whatever she did, left me just strong enough to last until the ambulance got me to the hospital. I guess it was a close call. My heart had stopped twice on the operating table. But once they had me stabilized, they said my recovery was miraculous. After I had gone home, you couldn't even tell anything happened to me only a week later.
Poor Miss Truman. The police arrested her, not for the accident, but for being an unregistered vampire. Someone new moved into her house a month later. About the time my ummm... symptoms started.
The sun became too bright for me, so I wear sunglasses all the time. And I sunburn easily. But not the toasty critter, screaming in pain, skin blistering burn. Just the, 'you were out in the sun too long' sunburn.
I was so very hungry all the time. Then the first time I accidentally found one of my hamsters, Inky, in my hand with my fangs in him, my first words were a whiny, Oh man!
It took me some time in front of the mirror, like around an hour trying to get my little fangs to go away before my mother came home. I had finally figured it out just in time.
I felt awesome and was kind of grossed out that the blood tasted so good. And I was worried that I was changing into a vampire. God, I'd have to wear one of those damn tracking bracelets, get one of those microchips implanted in my shoulder, and register with the city health department. But that was all the farther my changes went. Or so I thought.
The next time I found Inky in my hand and the wonderful taste of blood in my mouth, he sort of sat next to me and followed me around all the time. I researched vampires and found that if a vampire drinks from you more than once, you become totally enamored with them and will do anything they say to gain their favor. It is how they feed and not get caught. The enthrallment only lasts a day or two.
I finally shared with Cindy when she was pestering me about why I was so withdrawn and always hiding in my room after school. She, of course, didn't believe me so I smiled at her and dropped my fangs down.
She just sat there looking at me. I looked away in shame as I retracted my fangs, then she started talking to me. Whoa, now that was freaky when you made your eyes go red, I couldn't look away from you.
I looked back at her furrowing my brows. Then I remembered the mesmer
that vampires use to immobilize their prey for feeding so that they don't get away. Then they can implant memories or make them do something like drive home and forget about being a snack wrap for a fang-y. Those people are known as
