About this ebook

The first year of a beaver kit's life is full of new discoveries and dangers. But the most important lesson the kit learns is how to take care of his family's home. The lodge where he lives is protected by a long dam that many beavers have worked to build over the years. As the kit grows up, he helps repair and add to the family dam—and begins to build a life for himself.

Set at what is believed to be the world's longest beaver dam, Build, Beaver, Build—by award-winning author Sandra Markle—provides a glimpse of beaver life, seen through the eyes of one young beaver and his family.

This story is told from the viewpoint of a young male beaver. It begins when he is just 3 weeks old and almost captured by an eagle and follows his life until he is a year old. It shows his physical growth, what he learns about dam building, eating, gathering food, playing with his siblings and the dangers he faces. It talks about beaver dams and the history of this, the longest beaver dam. It also explains about when the beavers will leave home and start a family of their own. It is all done using beautiful, soft colourful illustrations as a story that is very easy to understand. The end of the book contains facts about beavers and their dams as well as sources to seek out to learn more. A great book for any library or school classroom learning about beavers, Canadian animals or different kinds of homes.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
