About this ebook

This book of prayers is a continuation from my second book, "Peace be still." That book was inspired by the writing of the 14th century mystic, Julian of Norwich.

In the prayers I have shown that regardless of what trial and tribulation we encounter in our temporal life our faith and the Holy Spirit will help us prevail.

Also if we turn from our self-will and seek God's will for our life then the problems we had before will disappear as we are given new direction, purpose and joy through the transforming power of the Holy Spirit in overcoming our nature.

    INTRODUCTION

My first book, Prayers from Revelations of Divine Love was inspired after reading Julian of Norwich’s book, Revelations of Divine Love.   My second book, Peace be still inspired by Julian of Norwich and after a visit to the healing well at Penmon Priory and the church there and from my own contemplation.

This book is a continuation of that inspiration.   I have endeavoured to show that no matter what trial and tribulation we encounter our faith and the Holy Spirit will help us prevail.

Also if we turn from our self-will and seek God’s will for our life then the problems we had before will disappear as we are given new direction, purpose and joy through the transforming power of the Holy Spirit over our nature.

    REVIEW

David has written a book of prayers that should meet most needs, as a glance at the contents page shows.

I love most of the ones that are prefaced by the context of David’s own life.   There is a warmth with humanity   in these introductions- however; the titles in the contents also show the gist of the prayers.

Anyone who is feeling dry and short of words will find this cornucopia of prayers a rich resource in their needs.   Brother Edward of the Christian Brothers.

    Prayers 1-125

1 Our temporal moments invested for eternity

Lord, An ounce of gold cannot buy a second of time.   You ordain our temporal days; we can only be stewards of that time.   May we not dwell on the immovable past, or live in worry and fear of the future.   May we live in the grace of the present moment that is full of Your light.

We can only learn from the mistakes of our past and we can make our actions to-day result in a better to-morrow for peace in Your broken world.

May we optimize every moment reaching out to serve You through the union of our will with Your will, reflecting Your light and love.   Let that light dispel the dark shadows of unrest to Your glory.

Give us strength and courage in the face of every trial and tribulation to succeed in overcoming them.

As we become constantly aware of the dark forces in this temporal life may we believe that through Your will we can have a positive reaction to change what we can.   May our positive reactions give us a positive emotion reflected in the smile we show to others who have not found the peace of Your will.

Through Your grace in every temporal moment may we remain in steadfast faith bearing the fruit of the Holy Spirit, until our souls receive Your heavenly embrace where there is no moment of past present or future, only Your eternity.   Amen.

    2 Kind words

Our blessed Lord Jesus, in the beauty of Your perfect nature on earth the words to Your believers were words of salvation, love, peace, forgiveness, acceptance, understanding, kindness, sympathy, healing, guidance and gentleness.   In our flawed natures our words can often be the opposite of Yours.

Give us the grace to seek to follow You and know when a kind word is needed to uplift a weary soul.   May we show someone that we care, we understand, that we accept them despite their flaws that they are no less of a human-being being because of them.   May we show that we recognise our own flaws and that we are no greater a person than they are.     Our kind words can be the greatest token of our affection.   Amen.

3 Persevere with the Lord’s task

Lord Jesus, You did not give up on the great task Your Father set before You.   May we follow Your example and be wholeheartedly committed to the task our Lord sets before us.

We are given gifts by our Heavenly Father in our temporal portion of life to fulfil the goal set before us to serve His will.   May we turn our whole mind to that goal, remembering Your sacrifice Lord Jesus.   The task set before us may seem too much for us to achieve, we may sometimes feel that things are not going our way and feel like giving up.   We must persevere to triumph, to be able to say as You did Lord Jesus, It is finished.   Amen.

    4 God’s plan for us

Lord God, may we seek to follow Your plan for our earthly life.   May we follow Your calling to accomplish Your divine will.   In our own stubborn self-will sin flourishes in our life, but in our deepest sin You will still act to yield our will to Your will.

The calling may be when we least expect it.   This is Your gift through the Holy Spirit.   But we must turn to You as a trusting child to receive this gift.   When we do it is Your transforming power through the Holy Spirit that will change our selfish nature to become an adopted child to serve You.   The turmoil of our self-will is turned into the joy, happiness and peace of the union of our will with Yours as we complete the plan for our life.   Amen.

5 Our fellowship with God and Christians

Lord God, Heavenly Father, give us the grace and wisdom to understand that this world cannot satisfy our souls or give us the true purpose for our temporal life which is to serve You.

Our soul should not be alone but be in fellowship with You by our selfish will being in union with Yours.   Our soul can commune with You in prayer just as our Lord Jesus did on earth.   Through this fellowship we become Your companion and Your adopted child.   We become part of the vine to bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit.

Lord, even with this fellowship and the gifts You impart to us we still need the fellowship of other Christians who will help us fulfil Your goal for our life.   To have this true and lasting fellowship we have to have true love that reflects Your love for us.   Give us the grace to look past the faults in others and accept them as You accept us.

Through this may we together reach out to the needs of our fellow human-beings in this world that so often can be so far removed from Your love and purpose.

Lord, this temporal fellowship with You on earth and with the fellowship of other Christians leads to the eternal fellowship and love of You and Your companions in heaven.   Amen.

6 God’s dream for our life

Lord God, Heavenly Father, may we not seek our own dream for our life but seek Your dream for us.   Our own dream may be for fame, success or riches, but away from Your dream we will never be satisfied, it will merely leave us empty.   In following Your dream we lessen our desires and we see that we need very little.   In seeking Your dream we will do well for others and that in turn that will be good for us.   We may not be able to help all those in need but if we help just one person, then that act of kindness, however small it is, is an act of love reflecting Your love.

Lord, in seeking Your dream for us in Your grace reveal it to Your obedient and humble servants.   Give us the gifts through the power of the Holy Spirit and Your guidance to use those gifts to fulfil that dream.

May we strive for peace and improvement and may the fulfilment of that dream leave the world a better place.   May we end our life with the sense of joy in the achievement of that dream for us.   Amen.

    7 Our prayers

Lord God, Heavenly Father, may we remember to pray daily, not only in times of danger, but in times when we feel everything is fine in our life.   May we remember to pray firstly for forgiveness for our old selfish nature that we struggle with daily.

The blood of our Lord Jesus can enable us to have that forgiveness and commune with You Father.   When we have Your forgiveness may our prayers go from the unanswered selfish petitioning prayers to prayers of Your will.   We can do this Lord by listening to the still small voice within our soul.   Lord commune to our contrite souls seeking Your will to build Your kingdom in this broken world.

May we follow the example of our Lord Jesus and spend time alone with our Father in daily prayer as He did.   May we pray through the power of the Holy Spirit and experience the transforming power of God’s blessing of peace in the world.

May we pray to become Your faithful obedient servant.   Through Your grace Father may You protect Your servants and guide them in the paths of righteousness.   Amen.

8 Following the attributes of our Lord Jesus Christ

Lord Jesus, Your earthly life was an illustration of the perfection of Your attributes.   Your will was a total manifestation of Your Father’s will to completely love, giving Your life as a sacrifice for us.   Your disciples were drawn to know God through all they saw You do on earth.

May our single purpose be to follow Your path to some degree in our temporal life in this disordered world.   May we give attention to strive with unchanging perseverance never to depart from following Your attributes.

Lord, may we show love, may we show affection, may we be tranquil, may we bring comfort, and may we share all that we can.

If we do this Lord we will bear some of the beauty of the fruits of the Holy Spirit in our attributes.   May we draw those who do not have the faith to Your saving grace and the gift of the love of Your Father on earth and in heaven.   Amen.

9 Be blessed in the service of the Lord

Lord God, Heavenly Father, our temporal life is short and with all our other commitments we have our time to be a servant is
