Britt-Marie simply cannot stand a mess. She despises the idea of a disorganized cutlery drawer, ranking it high on her list of unforgivable sins. For as strongly as she feels about general clutter, however, she does her best not to judge others, no matter how ill-mannered, disheveled, unkempt, or morally suspect they may be. But, as is the case in human interaction, sometimes people tend to interpret her helpful, well-intended suggestions as criticism, which of course is never her intention, she only means to assist.

But deep inside this socially awkward, fussy busybody of a woman is an imagination that is bigger and brighter than anyone could possibly conceive, and she has huge dreams and a warm heart that often goes unnoticed by those she interacts with.

After walking out on her cheating husband and being forced to fend for herself in the blatantly undeveloped town of Borg, where the nicest thing one can say is that it has a road running through it, Britt-Marie finds work as the caretaker of a recreation center that is scheduled for demolition.

As her job brings her closer to the community, a tiny one at that, can Britt-Marie find a place where she truly belongs and people actually understand her?
