About this ebook

In this book, Tim Cashmore confronts the ugly truths embedded deep within fictional literature. This is an intriguing academic discussion about the portrayal of ugliness in English literature during the 20th century. This extended essay focusses particularly on the texts Precious Bane, The Elephant Man and The Life And Loves Of A She-Devil. Originally written in 1994, Tim Cashmore's university dissertation finally gets its long overdue first publication.

Tim Cashmore

Tim is 44 although, with the aid of state-of-the-art digital image manipulation, he manages to look considerably older. Despite being the wrong side of middle age, Tim avoids acting like a proper grown-up where possible. After having an imaginary cat for some years, Tim now resides in Norfolk with his partner, a real cat and a very barky dog. The local village show have awarded Tim five third prizes, eight second prizes, 16 first prizes, two Best In Shows and three cups in 2014 and 2015 for his home produce. When he has time, if he's not baking, he's often found lurking with intent at the bakery aisle of his local supermarket or he's writing. After designing adverts and writing articles and theatre reviews for local and national newspapers, Tim has spent 15 years subtitling and audio-describing cinema films, DVDs, and a variety of pre-recorded terrestrial and satellite television programmes. Tim's knowledge of history is somewhat embarrassing, so he researched all the presidents of the United States since the Constitution. The resulting work, his American History Presidents Poem. Rude Food: May Contain Nuts, Tim’s first cook book, is also available. Tim has been a vegetarian for a quarter of a century and is already part-way through writing his second vegetarian cookery book, with the working title of Get Stuffed as well as Show Business, a collection of his show-stopping baking! Previously, Tim has written, directed and edited An Early Morning Pint, a short Halloween film. He’s previously worked on the pilot screenplay for a supernatural romance and is currently developing ideas for short films and full-length screenplays, including a thriller called Dog Eat Dog and a horror called The Meat Market. Tim is currently working on a lengthy rhyme about the British Prime Ministers. Tim plans to upload more of his recipes, poetry and scripts to Smashwords, although if there's a tasty looking slice of treacle tart around, the cake wins.
