About this ebook

Unlock the more straightforward side of The Metamorphosis with this concise and insightful summary and analysis!

This engaging summary presents an analysis of The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, a modernist short story which tells of a mundane employee who wakes up one morning to discover that he has turned into a giant insect overnight and how his relatives react to this metamorphosis. The story continues to bemuse readers and has been turned into countless films, stage performances and even an opera. Kafka did not gain much recognition for his writing during his lifetime, and it was not until his friend published Kafka's stories (against the author's wishes) after his death that the world discovered the writer's talent.

    Born in Prague in 1883

    Died near Vienna in 1924

Undoubtedly one of the major writers of the 20th century, Franz Kafka (1883-1924) was a complex writer: his works have given rise to many comments and interpretations. His texts namely reflect the alienation of the modern man, the mysterious yet implacable forces of society that govern his existence, as well as his futile quest for answers in a baffling world.

A German-speaking Jew and living in Prague, Kafka had to write at night, he had to work in an office during the day. His success was posthumous, as his writings grew in popularity after his death from tuberculosis in 1924. Among them, the most famous are The Metamorphosis (1915) and The Trial (1925).
