YOU ARE ACCEPTED
You were accepted from the beginning of time. Now, take up ownership of your birthright.
I know that some of us have been in relationships where we struggled with being accepted. I know we have struggled in childhood and other stages of life. I found it hard to overcome these childhood shadows of feeling unaccepted. We battle feelings of abandonment and rejection, even as adults. It is not easy to reconcile the past, and while you cannot forget it, you can replace those scars with positive thoughts and actions that have the potential to turn your entire life around. The most difficult, and least rewarding, challenge is to fight to be accepted.
For every action there is a reaction. Take parental abandonment as one example of an action. One’s reaction to such an experience can define his or her future. Parental abandonment can result in minor or major dysfunction in our lives. It can make or break us. It took me a long time to find solace after my parents’ abandonment of me, and even to this day, it plays an emotional role in my life. That abandonment, that pain, reminds me of when Jesus died on the cross, and how he took all of that pain just for me. Jesus was never at fault for anything I had done, just as I was not at fault for what my parents had done. Going through the experience of abandonment made me realize that I did not have to carry that burden. I realized that I was heaping a huge responsibility on my heart and mind, struggling with insecurity that was not worth wasting my life. I felt abandoned by my mother because she was not aware of my emotional state of mind, but I realized that she would not have known my pain because she was struggling with her own.
My relationship with my father was similarly challenging. My mother was not able to reveal to me my father’s identity. Therefore, I felt abandoned by my father because my mother did not disclose his existence. The pain from that feeling was left without closure because my mother had passed away.
When Jesus took on beatings, endured persecution, and ultimately died for me, he accepted all of my flaws, sins, and pain. It is that truth that has made me understand my purpose, and has helped me find my acceptance on this earth.
Many of us walk around feeling failed by the people around us, and yet we know that our purpose is not defined by mortal whims. Mortal acceptance comes from being generally approved. It is usually regarded as normal and defined as usual, common, and ordinary.
Our acceptance has been paid on the cross, and we have been relieved of carrying the burden of others’ disapproval. It is no mystery how we were created, and it is no mystery how we came to be accepted through Jesus Christ. It is a fact that through our Lord, we were accepted and not rejected, long before our birth.
Being accepted in Christ can help you fulfill your purpose, but if you do not know how to feel accepted in Christ, you will not be able to know your purpose. Being accepted is not a manufacturer’s label that comes after passing a screening. You are already accepted. That is your God-given right from the beginning of time. Our society places labels on us and has made us believe that it is abnormal to suffer from past experiences from which we have yet to heal. Others make us feel that we need to prove ourselves to be accepted, to feel normal. I came to terms with this and applied this basic principle to help me: Acceptance comes from just being me.
What many see as abnormal, God sees as normal.
I realized this after trying to figure myself out for years. It was never a matter of finding myself; it was about accepting what I’d already found inside. The stamp of approval was given well before I was conceived. It was given by God.
My mother and father were only instruments of my creation. I did not need their approval. It was ordained and approved by God. God created me in His image. Therefore, I am beautifully and wonderfully made.
Were you an outcast? Were you one of those people who did not fit in a certain group? Did you never get invited to hang out? Have you been rejected by a friend or spouse? If you fit any of these categories at any given time in your life, consider yourself favored. Yes, favored.
We were not born to fit into the molds created by man. Do not question where you
