Pubblicato nel 1917 rappresenta il primo passo dell'Autore per la realizzazione della sua opera più famosa "I Miti di Cthulhu".
Dalla Prefazione:
Dagon, scritto nel luglio 1917, è uno dei racconti più famosi di H.P. Lovecraft perché al suo interno è possibile ritrovare la base dei successivi racconti relativi all’Universo di Cthulhu.
Il protagonista è un io-narrante senza nome che vive un'emozionante avventura di guerra, attraverso un percorso narrativo onirico frutta di una intensa commistione tra componenti allucinanti e aspetti realistici.
Lo stesso H.P. Lovecraft considera “Dagon” un racconto Fantastico, partendo dall’assunto “Solo la narrativa fantastica soddisfa le richieste dell'immaginazione, ed anzi esiste esclusiva-mente a questo scopo.
Grazie alla sua creatività, Lovecraft darà vita ad un mondo popolato da Dei spaventosi e terribili provenienti da realtà parallele o da altri mondi.

Renowned as one of the great horror-writers of all time, H.P. Lovecraft was born in 1890 and lived most of his life in Providence, Rhode Island. Among his many classic horror stories, many of which were published in book form only after his death in 1937, are ‘At the Mountains of Madness and Other Novels of Terror’ (1964), ‘Dagon and Other Macabre Tales’ (1965), and ‘The Horror in the Museum and Other Revisions’ (1970).
