Introduction
Welcome to Rekindle Your Inner Sparkle.
My journey towards healing started eight years ago. I was finding it very hard and frustrating as to why I had memories missing of my teenage years and beyond. They were like these gaps, small black holes in which no matter how hard I tried I just couldn’t fill them. I just thought I was crazy, unusual, quirky_ quirky seemed to fit the description of myself perfectly.
I would startle when people called my name and sometimes, which people found very frustrating was the way I would start saying something, only for my mind to go completely and utterly blank. At these times of nothingness
, I would quietly, patiently wait for my mind to re-boot itself, rather like a computer, which had suddenly crashed and then sparked back into life.
My husband found it completely exasperating. There was nothing I could do but utter the usual apology, I’m sorry, but when it happens_ it happens!
What more could I say?
One day the idea struck of writing a journal, just a short one. It was to start in my teenage years and go from there. This journal went on for a while, writing slowly memories came back, which in turn led to panic attacks. I’d had them in the past but they were, I told myself part of my quirky
nature…
The journal was slow, over a period of four years. At one point my husband and step-daughter suggested I publish it… The answer had always been a resounding no. Who would want to read about a teenager who was raped? Who then fell into an abusive marriage? Who escaped only to find herself in a relationship which would have her held hostage, run for her life and lose her children? Not exactly fluffy bunnies and rainbows, right?
The thought had started, quietly nagging in the back of my mind. What if this story helped someone else? I took a work respite from the financial world, warned everyone I worked with, that come January 1st I was embarking on a new hobby, the hobby of publishing a book.
A few months later it was released through self-publishing, A Broken Ring. A year later I published Stalking Liberty. I had started a blog, made new friends, who were as quirky as me and I researched, from nine in the morning, through to eleven in the evening. I did take a break for an hour for dinner with husband. I know, I was bad. All these hours were enlightening, though.
I discovered I had been raised by a narcissistic, abusive mother and an enabling father. I discovered it wasn’t my fault I was raped, that I wasn’t evil because I had bounced from man to man, or resembled an evil witch for losing my children, I wasn’t even quirky!
I was a survivor who had PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome). Some people develop this from a one-time traumatic event, some people have started to class long time trauma as C-PTSD (Complex- Post Traumatic Syndrome) as they say these days Who knew?
Through the journeys of the books, I was swept with various emotions of crying, laughing, and at times just being downright hysterical but I kept telling myself I was a survivor.
If you have bought or been given this book it’s no doubt that you too are a survivor, a warrior who is either battling or has battled and so far you have won! You might not feel that way right now, but you are winning! You are still
