About this ebook

Human bodies, like all other living bodies, are composed of a multitude of tiny living cells. When we use the body these cells wear out and need replenishing. We replenish them by eating food which contains these cells.

It is my purpose in this book to show that it is better to take these living cells in their natural condition than to take them after they have been destroyed by cooking. In the one case they fill the consumer with new vitality. In the other case they fill the consumer with disease and sooner or later cause death.—From Author’s Introduction

    INTRODUCTION

Human bodies, like all other living bodies, are composed of a multitude of tiny living cells. When we use the body these cells wear out and need replenishing. We replenish them by eating food which contains these cells.

It is my purpose in this book to show that it is better to take these living cells in their natural condition than to take them after they have been destroyed by cooking. In the one case they fill the consumer with new vitality. In the other case they fill the consumer with disease and sooner or later cause death.

The theories advanced in this book are original, and I believe I offer sufficient evidence to cause their acceptance by the reader.

The questions, answers, and experiences given in this book actually occurred at one of my lectures.

I place my thoughts before you with the hope that they will compel you to improve your own condition by living a more natural life.

    THE ADVANTAGES OF RAW FOOD

The following is an address delivered before the Physical Culture Association of America by its President, Julian P. Thomas, M.D.

"Ladies and Gentlemen: It gives me great pleasure to speak to you this evening upon the vital subject of ‘Raw Food.’ I shall not lecture you long. I shall simply give you an outline of the subject, and then request you to discuss what I have said for our mutual benefit.

"Perhaps you would like to know why I started to live upon Raw Food. I can tell you in a few words. All of my life I had more or less stomach trouble, yet my vitality was such that I managed to live and perform my various functions fairly well. I graduated from college, and then set out as a medical practitioner. I spent many years in hospitals, clinics, etc., and then took charge of a private sanitarium. At this sanitarium my diet was most thoroughly cooked. I was compelled to work quite hard. In a few months I found myself growing nervous. My stomach, which had always been more or less weak, gave out entirely, refusing to digest any article of food. I lost weight, became more nervous, and neuralgia set in. I was forced to take
