Starting Your Own Business

Blending With The Sky––––––––
If you have an entrepreneurial spirit and a strong desire to work for yourself, you can benefit from starting your own business. If you have such a desire, you certainly are not alone. According to the 2010 Small Business Administration (SBA) statistics, there were almost 28 million small businesses in the United States, 52% of them being home-based businesses. It is also interesting to note that a small business is designed as an independent operation that has fewer than 500 employees. Of course, most small businesses have far fewer employees than 500 or perhaps no outside employees at all.
There is no doubt that you have already spent a considerable amount of time thinking about business and what it is going to mean for yourself and your family. As you will see in this book, the planning process is just as important as filing for permits or for your tax information. Without proper planning, it is likely that you will run into difficulties and you could save yourself a lot of headaches by simply ironing out the details in advance. Pay careful attention to the chapters about choosing a business to operate and writing a business plan. It will serve you well throughout the time that you are running the business.
It is also important for you to consider all of the legal aspects that are associated with starting a new business. Although we will cover much of that information in this report, including how to structure your business, how to register a business and how to get your tax identification number, it is also good to get professional help. One thing that most new business owners are concerned about is the failure rate of small businesses. I am letting you know about this, not to frighten you out of starting a small business but rather, to help you to focus on it so that you can be in the part of the equation that lasts for the long term.
Although estimates vary, depending upon who is giving them, it is thought that as many as eight out of every 10 small businesses fail within the first two years of operation. If you take the time to follow the guidelines that are outlined in this book, it is much more likely that you will land in the 20% of small business owners who continue to enjoy their business for the long-term. It is also important to recognize that, once you are able to get past the first few years, the possibility of maintaining your business for the long-term increases substantially.
Finally, it is important to consider the way that technology is going to affect your business. In today's society, it is difficult to find any businesses that do not use technology in some way or another. This is especially true with the advent of the Internet and the fact that much of your new business
