Apple Brown Betty
Ingredients:
6 medium Granny Smith apples
Zest and juice of 1 lemon
4 cups pound cake, cubed
1/2 cup cold butter
1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon cloves
Vanilla ice cream
Directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 300 °F.
2. Peel and core the apples and cut into 3/4-inch slices. Transfer to a large bowl and zest the lemon and squeeze the juice over the apple slices and toss. Set aside.
3. On a 12-by-17-inch baking sheet, arrange the cake cubes in one layer and bake on the center rack of the oven until lightly brown, about 10 minutes.
4. Melt the butter in a small saucepan. When the cake cubes are done, transfer to a large bowl, pour half of the melted butter into the bowl and toss. Set aside.
5. Add the sugar, nutmeg and cloves to the apples and gently toss together.
6. Raise the oven temperature to 375 °F. Place one-third of the toasted cake cubes on the bottom of a 9-inch square baking dish. Top with half the apple slices, followed by another third of the cake cubes and then the remaining apples. Top the apples with the remaining cake cubes. Pour remaining butter over everything. Bake on the center rack for 30 minutes.
7. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

Apple Pear Crumble
Ingredients:
11/2 cups rolled oats
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup brown sugar, divided
1/2 cup butter
2 cups peeled and diced apples
2 cups peeled and diced pears
1 tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Combine oats, flour and 1/2 cup brown sugar in a large bowl and cut butter into mixture until crumbly.
3. In separate bowl, combine apples, pears, lemon juice, salt, cinnamon, and remaining 1/2 cup brown sugar.
4. Spread apple-pear mixture in bottom of a greased 9-inch square baking dish. Sprinkle oat mixture over fruit mixture. Bake 35 minutes until golden.
