What’s it about?
Rules—we face them every single day. Some of them are in place for our own good and unquestionably protect us. Traffic laws are a good example of such rules. If we break them, we run the risk of hurting ourselves or others.
There are other rules, however, that aren’t so helpful, and yet they’re considered to be fundamental. These types of rules are taught throughout our life; we learn some even before we begin primary school. Our parents, teachers, and greater society instill and enforce these rules. These rules have existed for generations, and anyone who questions them is labeled a rebel. Therefore, very few people are willing to rock the proverbial boat by questioning their authority.
What’s interesting, however, is that many of these so-called fundamental rules tend to do more harm than good when it comes to our personal happiness and the health of the society in which we live. In fact, it could even be suggested that we would be better off if many, if not all, of these rules were broken.
