Introduction
Business is woven into every fabric of our lives, from the clothes we wear to the foods we eat to the roof over our heads. There is no area of our lives left untouched by business.
Through my experiences as a business leader, I have learned a great deal. I have seen business done well, and I have also seen business done poorly. I have seen people struggle and strive, forgetting to trust in God. I have seen people tell lies, compromising their integrity in exchange for landing the next deal. I have seen pride destroy relationships and businesses. I have seen men and women lose their vision, failing to lead as they get swept into a tide of greed and discontentment. And I have done all of those things myself.
Before I met Christ, I had achieved what many would only hope to do in a lifetime, building a multinational entertainment industry corporation and working with the most prominent figures in the entertainment industry. But at the end of the day, there was still something missing. Thankfully, God was not done writing my story. Through one courageous person, I had a transformative encounter with Jesus, and my life has never been the same. Today, I lead the same successful company, but I do not lead it alone. I let God take control, and He guides the way. He is the ultimate authority of my life, and I know my company runs best with Him at the helm.
There are many business books on the market today. Some encourage personal growth. Some explore how to get rich quick. But few discuss the importance of doing business God’s way. Business Backwards offers simple, practical and Biblical principles that all business leaders can adhere to. Living by these principles has changed my personal and business life, and I pray it will change yours too.
In Christ!

Chapter One - Leaders Are Servants
Luke 22:26: Let the leader become as one who serves.
It is a God-given honor to be a leader. The success of every company, from Google to the mom and pop store down the street, can be attributed to its leaders fostering an inspired work environment. The most effective business leaders understand the need to empower others. They recognize that God gave them their skill sets, not for them to focus on building a kingdom for themselves, but to use their gifts to bless others and ultimately glorify God. They ask, What can I do for you?
more often than What can you do for me?
This may be counter-cultural, but this is the way of Jesus.
In Mark 10:35–37, the apostles James and John wanted glory for themselves. James and John did not ask to be servants in the kingdom of God. They did not ask Jesus to use them. They asked for honor and power. Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to Him: ‘Teacher,’ they said, ‘we want you to do for us whatever we ask.’ ‘What do you want me to do for you?’ He asked. They replied, ‘Let one of us sit at your right hand and the other at your left in your glory.’
In Mark 10:42–44, Jesus called the disciples together. He said, You know this. The rulers of the Gentiles have great power. Their important officials give many orders to people. You must not behave like that. Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant. Whoever wants to be important must be a slave of all.
As we look at Jesus’ life, we see a servant. Jesus was born into the most humble of circumstances, entering the world in an old barn, cradled by two teenagers and wrapped in a cloth. He grew up to be a carpenter, doing His earthly father’s work. As He
