About this ebook
A story of redemption and a must-read for anyone leaving an abusive relationship. This book is for those in an abusive relationship, those who have left, and probably most importantly those just coming out of an abusive relationship. If you've ever believed it was your fault, if you're struggling with feelings of low self-worth after leaving an abusive relationship, you need to read this book. This is one woman's struggle not to follow in the footsteps of the women before her. This is one woman's battle to leave an abusive relationship after staying in it for over ten years. This is the story of how one woman finally had the courage to leave, and the feelings she worked through after she left. There are a host of emotions and trials a woman experiences when she leaves, and as she begins to try to love herself again. During this she may experience feelings of guilt, shame and embarrassment. This book is to serve that woman. You are not alone in those feelings. It's a normal part of the process as you start to strip away the layers of what you have become during your time in an abusive relationship. Leaving your abuser is scary, and it's hard work, but it's life changing and you can do it. You WILL survive and thrive.

About the Author
This book is dedicated to all the cowardly
women, who discover they aren’t so cowardly after all, and to all those women who learn how to become courageous.
A humble thank you to JW for lovingly designing another book cover for me, (just because he says I deserve it) as well as being my first pass copy editor, and offering encouragement as well as constructive criticism.
Thank you to the many friends and family members who supported me when I decided to leave my ex-husband. Without them, I might not have been able to leave. They offered words of encouragement, a shoulder to cry on and endless valuable, crucial resources.
This book is based largely on true events. Some details have been changed to protect those involved.
Note: While this book is written for women, I acknowledge men also experience violence at the hands of their partners (male or female).

Becoming a Coward
Children close their ears to advice, but open their eyes to example. ~Unknown
As early as when I was an infant I was witnessing my mother cater to a man, in ways no woman ever should. He was her boyfriend, and he eventually became her common-law husband after they lived together for several years. He had one child of his own, and didn’t want any more. He didn’t acknowledge me as his, he rarely spoke to me, and he had an intimidating presence which solidified in me a fear of men. My mother’s financial and emotional reliance on him, as well as her efforts to always make him happy taught me a great deal about the role a woman should play in a relationship. My mother doted on him even though he was a drunk who cheated on her multiple times, defecating and urinating on himself after he passed out on the floor each night. The one night I witnessed his drunk return home (they usually occurred after I was in
