About this ebook

People asked me: “can you tell me the questions and answers for the interview?” or “what should I do to join your airline?”. They all wanted to know how to become a flight attendant.

I wish I could give them the right answer. But I was not allowed. I was in the recruitment team and I couldn’t say a word.

Today I have decided to call them back, one by one. I will help them to pass the interview. I will help them to pursue their dream to become cabin crew. I will help them to fly high in the sky.

BECOME A FLIGHT ATTENDANT - Matteo Narzisi

CAREER

Introduction

The human being has always dreamed of being with the sky. The only possible way to go there was to fly. This dream became true at the very beginning of the 1900s. Following the Second World War, commercial aviation became more and more important. The job market in aviation started to grow during this time and continues to grow today. The airlines are looking for young and dynamic employees. If you have ever dreamed of discovering the world, having lunch in Barcelona, dinner in Paris, and serving champagne at 30,000 feet, then this little guide will help you to make this aspiration a reality.

The role of the flight attendant is hidden behind the glamorous uniforms, behind the smiles every passenger sees every day. Whilst pilots are mainly in charge of flying the plane, flight attendants have the responsibility of the safety of its occupants. This means they have to follow intense training courses, both practical and theoretical, in order to learn the standard and emergency procedures. During the training they study how to deal with different situations, like evacuating an aircraft cabin in less than 90 seconds, fighting a fire or administering first aid to someone.

Emergencies can occur on board a plane and always require the intervention of the cabin crew. A fire in the toilet, a ditching, a passenger panicking, and a decompression situation are just examples of what flight attendants are trained for.

Whilst procedural training provides the new employee a full view of the emergency procedures, on the other hand, the airline will provide training on the commercial side of this job: the on-board service. You might learn how to serve different types of wine, special foods like caviar or lobsters, in a professional way. If you work for a low cost airline you can learn how to sell more products to the same passenger, in order to increase the daily revenue and enjoy of some extra money coming from sales commissions.

Flight attendants are the face of the airline. They represent the company’s values at all times. The passenger’s journey experience starts when they leave home. They reach the airport, check-in and go through security; then they wait at the boarding gate before being able to board the plane. During these phases passengers can experience bad service and they might relay their story to the flight attendant once they are on board. The flight is often the longest part of their journey and
