About this ebook

One thing I am starting to get annoyed by is all the religious stories going on here. To me it's stumbled out of urban fantasy and smacked its head into religion. Another thing I don't care for is how repetitive it is. Repeating the same things over and over, in some cases the same exact lines. Still love the characters though, they keep me wanting to read the next book in the series.

Good start that just fizzled out a few chapters before the end.

I liked this book a lot. The Walking Man is coming to the Nightside, and no one can stop him. It's a highly entertaining addition. I especially loved the confrontation between the Walking Man and Razor Eddie. It's awe-inducing to see these two gods duke it out. Highly recommended read.

One of my favorites in the series so far. The Wrath of God walks the earth and wants to take out the Nightside. Only John Taylor can stop it, others can try, but only Taylor (maybe) can stop it. You get to see more of the Nightside's establishments (which is interesting in and of itself) and characters. REally enjoyable!

“I’m still worried about the whole unstoppable, invulnerable, wrath of God bit,” I said.“This from a man who’s fought angels from Above and Below,” said Larry. “At least, according to him.”“I know my limits,” I said, matching him stare for stare. “I can find the Walking Man. I can talk to him. I can use all kinds of tricks to confuse and divert him . . . but after that, your guess is as good as mine. We’re in unknown territory here.”“Scared?” said Count Video.“Bloody right I’m scared!” I said. “When the angels came here to fight their war over the Unholy Grail, their powers were strictly limited by the nature of the Nightside, and they still killed thousands of people and wrecked the place! And now Walker tells me the Nightside’s nature has changed, and we don’t even have that protection any more. If I had any sense, I’d go home and hide under the bed until this is all over. As it is . . . Look, when we talk about the wrath of God, we should be bearing in mind what happened to Sodom and Gomorrah, two cities destroyed by God for the sinfulness of their inhabitants. And I’ll bet good money they weren’t up to half the stuff that happens here on a regular basis, half price at weekends.”The Walking Man, instrument of God's wrath on Earth, has sent a polite letter to the editor of the Night Times, saying that he is coming to the Nightside to kill the guilty and stamp out evil. The new Authorities, who are also on the Walking Man's list, hire John Taylor and Shotgun Suzie to stop him fearing that he could destroy the Nightside, and they are joined by monster hunter Chandra Singh, a Sikh khalsa who wants to pit himself against another holy warrior.Just Another Judgment Day is a return to form after the previous few books in the series, which had become quite repetitive and a little dull. And right at the end of the book, there are a couple of developments that could lead to big changes for Taylor, both personally and professionally.

John Taylor is hired by the new authorities to try and stop the walking man who has been given the power by God to destroy those who are sinful. Which would include most of the nightside. A good read and fun book.

Funny ending. I had thought all John Taylor would have to do is finally use his gift, and have a big showdown. But instead, he just had to stand up to him.

Simon Green has long been the urban fantasy equivalent of Marmite or the X-Factor; you either love or hate his tongue in cheek hardboiled style and are willing to overlook the noir machismo that sometimes threatens to swamp the prose. Green's latest installment of the Nightside once again plunges us into the twilight world parallel to London in which it is always 4am and every sin and vice is available for a reasonable price. John Taylor has been asked by the newest Authorities to help them stop the unstoppable; the True God has come to the Nightside in the form of his enforcer the Walking Man. The Walking Man comes to the Nightside to purge it of sin, vice and to kill the Authorities as a warning to the wrong doer. Several familiar faces are present here; Walker, Julian, Jessica Sorrow the Unbeliever, King of Skin, and Count Video. Part of the fun of the Nightside is the wonderful eclectic and carefully drawn secondary characters and it's nice to see previous characters in cameos. Unfortunately, there is less of Suzie Shooter than normal as she is diverted midway through the case. In many ways although this is a fun installment it feels like we're treading water in this installment; baby steps are made in advancing Suzie and John's complicated relationship and Walker and John have a very touching scene that leaves the reader hungry for more emotional connections like it. As to the Walking Man plot it feels like we've seen this before, particularly the religious and moral complexities echo the Angel War that occurred previously. The main difference in this installment is the increase in graphic violence and gore. Although, Green has always used violence within the Nightside to make a point and there have been genuinely gripping scenes before but this time it feels a lot like the violence is there to pad out the main plot or create a false sense that the plot is moving forward, when in fact often it lurches from loose event to event stitched together by violence like an action movie. This is one for the hardcore faithful only and lacks the subtelty necessary to make a truly engaging stand alone novel. Here's hoping there is some more momentum to the next installment.

This is book 9 in the Nightside series by Simon Green. I love this series and I loved this book. Last I heard there are going to be 12 books in this series; I hope it is more because I enjoy this series immensley. The Nightside has a new Authority in place but the New Authories have a problem. Walker comes begging John Taylor to deal with it. You see the Walking Man is coming to the Nightside. The Walking Man is a human man that delivers the wrath of God upon humanity. The Walking man sees in black and whites, no greys. People are either bad or good and, the Nightside being what it is, everyone in it is in trouble. In fact the Walking Man is bent on destroying the whole darn place. The New Authorities need John to find the Walking Man and...deal with him. This was a great book. As usual it opens with a small case that John Taylor and Shotgun Suzie have to solve; this case is just as interesting and creative as the rest of the book. These books continue to be wilding entertaining, bizarrely creative, and an all around great ride. I love the way Green throws in off-handed comments about the strangest things. Just the fact that the book starts in Strangefellows bar with The Tribe of Gay Barbarians doing the Cancan is enough to make me eagerly devour the whole book. Too bad it was over so quickly. In this book Shotgun Suzie joins John for part of the journey but John's closest friend is a monster hunter from the Middle East named Chandra. Chandra is a great character. We learn even more about Walker and where his power originates. John and Suzie come to more of an understanding in their "relationship". Madness and mayhem are everywhere. And of course John has to face the Wrath of God.These books continue to be hilarious, fast-paced, action packed, surprising, creative, and all around hugely entertaining. I was sad when it ended and am eagerly awaiting the next book.

The Walking Man has come to the Nightside to provide GOD's judgement. The New Authorities want John Taylor to stop him. This is a wonderful addition to the Nightside series. A new favorite character is added, Chandra Singh. He's also a holly warrior. The usual suspects also show up, Suzzie Shooter, Razor Eddie, Jullian Advent, Walker. Also the development between Walker and John is startling. Can't wait to see what happens in the next book. Also the New Authorities show up and you get to see who they are! And what this means for John!Enjoy it and then go back and reread the entire series.p.s. I liked the reference to the Drood family and the Deathstalkers! Love it how Simon Green connects his different series together.

Simon Green is back in the game with his latest installment in the Nightside series. The series had seemed to stagnate a bit, but Green found a fresh angle to put John Taylor back in the thick of it, and I really enjoyed seeing him in action again. Taylor's relationship with Suzie Shooter adds an interesting dimension to the story as well. I think the first entries in the series, focused around solving the mystery of Taylor's mother, were the best in the series, but this is worth a read too.

Having read all of these stories to date, I have to say they are getting a bit silly - like the books are an excuse to parade out a bunch of twisted characters with little storyline to hold them together. The point is getting lost amongst a lot of characters that aren't needed. That said, Nightside books remain sinfully delicious, like a rich chocolate - light and fluffy, with favorite characters revisited like old friends, and a setting just as trippy for the reader as it is for the inhabitants. To a certain extent, the extensive cast of crazy characters ARE a part of the setting! This time John Taylor, PI extraordinaire, is asked by the new Authorities to take down the Walking Man - God's right hand of justice incarnate. The Walking Man has come to the Nightside to eliminate all sinners and bad people (which, let's face it, is most of the Nightside's denizens). The problem: as God's right-hand badass, he's invulnerable. So how is John supposed to stop him?Silly and fluffy, but still a lot of fun.
