About this ebook

Warning: Disturbing accounts of serial killers and demons. What if the world’s worst predators worked together? Could evil spirits and human monsters act as one? Paranormal researcher and retired criminal profiler Dr. Deborah Kauflin looks into the frightening link between bad spirits and serial killers. Whether you love the paranormal or study serial murder, this book delves into the lives of serial murderers and their experiences with otherworldly entities.

After interviewing 25 multiple murderers for criminal profiling research, Dr. Kauflin found a disturbing link between these killers and dark paranormal activity. Based on the interviews with both killers and witnesses, she pieced together an eerie puzzle which shows that evil spirits really do interact with serial killers. Just who or what is stalking victims with these murderers?

Dr. Kauflin worked on hundreds of serial murder & sexual homicide cases for police departments. She taught thousands of homicide detectives, FBI agents, US Military, and created the profiles of female serial killers, sadistic murderers, and terrorists. Back in November 2008, Dr. Kauflin predicted that India would be the next big terror attack in her book Disturbed. Two weeks later, terrorists hit Mumbai and took 166 lives. Her most famous profile was of the BTK serial murderer, and she is known for being the first person to interview a group of female serial killers for groundbreaking criminal profiling research. Dr. Kauflin has appeared as a criminal profiling expert on ABC, CNN, FoxNews, The Discovery Channel, Investigation Discovery, and the Seoul Broadcasting System. She wrote for Psychology Today Magazine online, did volunteer work for the National Organization of Parents of Murdered Children, and has authored four other books.

The only people who will truly understand this book will be those who experience it. I help people with spiritual problems for a living and have experienced much of what she describes. And I was just thinking about the connection between serial killers and the demonic.. I saw similarities... and here it is. This author is a Godsend. Someone needs to do this.

Chapter 1: Introduction

In the dark corners of the night, there are things that haunt us. There are beings who watch our every move. Some are human; others are inhuman. In this book, I am going to talk about both. A predator is a predator, whether it is a serial killer or evil spirit. Both bring out a primal fear in even the bravest among us. Though serial murderers are terrifying, there is something more worrisome, more mystifying about the supernatural. After all, how do you fight what you cannot see?

All cultures have a history of belief in evil spirits. Whether they are called demons or something else, people around the world hold strong impressions of them. Many would argue that dark spiritual entities present a direct threat to us. In the Muslim world, there are those who fear the Djinn, a powerful race of beings (Guiley, 2013). The Chinese fear the hungry ghosts who are thought to be neglected ancestors or people who died in an unfortunate circumstance. The Hungry Ghost Festival is celebrated to appease the ravenous souls who are freed during this time. Plates of food are put out to satisfy the specters and prevent bad luck. The South African Zulu tradition includes belief that evil spirits cause bad luck and illnesses (Ngwane, 1997). In Hinduism, it is said that demons often act at the request of higher level beings. And of course in the West, we have tales of the Devil and demonic possession (Martin, 1992). Just do some digging, and you will find legends about evil spirits all around the globe. So you shouldn’t be surprised if someone tells you a story about supernatural encounters with something sinister.

Throughout my life, people told me about dark spirits and how their lives were ruined by them. Like most people, I would just roll my eyes and think they were overreacting. I was never a believer until I saw it firsthand. You can roll your eyes too if you want. I think that is a natural reaction. However, after I researched this topic, I found that many people who experienced such things were down to earth individuals who were not ill (psychologically or physically), were not taking medications, had witnesses to back them up, had clean environmental checks, and did not want publicity. There was truly something bad happening to them that could not be explained rationally. If you have never truly looked at the evidence for dangerous paranormal activity, then you do not know what is happening.

Society’s taboo on the subject is very powerful. It is strong enough to keep victims from talking. Just saying that you believe in the dark side of the supernatural is a no-no. There are paranormal investigators, researchers, and famous psychics who claim there are no such things as dark entities. Even they fall prey to pressure not to accept that there is something else beyond the good they see on the other side. In public, they will state that they do not believe in evil energy. However in private, these famous mediums and researchers tell me something totally different. They say they cannot come forward and discuss it because they will not be taken seriously. Some have told me that their publicists have made it clear that they should not discuss anything such as demons, djinn, aliens, or topics like that. Yet, these people do believe in them.

When you carefully examine the cases without bias, you will find that dark energy is alive. Worse than that, it is here, it has form, and it can hurt you. I repeat: it is here, it has form, and it can hurt you. The monsters of the world know this, but do you?

Profiler:

Hannibal Lecter might pop into your mind if someone asks you about serial killers. His character was legendary and based on real life murderers. The Silence of the Lambs was one of the first movies to really show the public what goes on in serial murder cases. Today you see these kinds of movies all the time. Shows like Criminal Minds let us tune in week after week to watch the deviant mind at work. Such human monsters are out there hunting humans every day. They watch you walk, how you move, and they peer into your windows hoping to find a way to get at you. They master the art of stalking their prey because they are living boogey men. These are the criminals I have profiled for many years, and I helped put a lot of them behind bars. When it comes to serial killers, I know them better than just about anyone.

For those who do not know me, I am a retired criminal profiler. I opened my business, the Violent Crimes Institute, in 1997. I worked hundreds of serial murder and sexual homicide cases for police departments. Over the years I trained thousands of detectives, FBI agents, and US Military personnel about the topics of serial murder and criminal profiling. However, I did not just profile and teach. I actually created the profiles of female serial killers that are used by police around the world. By interviewing convicted killers and researching their crime patterns, I also created new profiles of sadistic murderers and terrorists. Because of that expertise, I was asked to consult for elected officials, and my research has been cited in many academic journals and government reports.

People often ask me how I got into that line of work because it is not just something you stumble into. Funny thing is, many years ago, a psychic told me I would be famous for working around serial killers. Back in 1990, a friend of mine bought me a psychic reading for a birthday present. I thought it might be interesting to go, and I must say, the lady was a character. She was an older woman with a personality that was bigger than life. There were no bells and whistles that you might expect in a psychic’s office. I did not see any crystal balls or fog machines tucked behind the curtains. What I did see was a large oak desk with an antique clock perched on the left side. That was the first thing that struck me. She had the same antique clock that my grandmother had. The clock means a lot to me because my grandmother passed it along to me when she died. I love it and have it displayed in my living room. If you ever saw my Poisonous Women television program on the Discovery Channel, you may have seen it behind my shoulder when I was being interviewed.

The psychic stated that one day I would be doing work around serial killers and that I would be very famous for this. Now, I had not said a word about crime or murder to her. In fact, at that time, very few people knew of my interest in the field. Not even the friend who paid for the psychic reading knew I wanted to be a criminal profiler. There was no way the psychic could have known that. Not many young women planned on going into profiling in 1990. This was something that she had no chance of guessing, and she could not have found it in any public records either.

I always kept what she said in the back of my mind, and it helped me as I made my way through the profiling field. At the time I was not convinced that what she predicted would come true, but let’s face it, when someone tells you that you will be successful, you tend to listen. Before she finished the reading, she said she wanted to tell me one more thing. You’re very psychic, and one day you’ll be doing this for a living. And with that she lost me. Yes, I admit I am psychic, but I had ZERO interest in being one. Once the lady told me that, the reading was over for me.

Again, I NEVER wanted to be psychic, let alone tell people I was one. I knew what the paranormal was all about because my mother’s aunt had been a psychic medium. My whole life has been filled with paranormal activity. Shadow people walked through my room when I was little, and though many are afraid of them, I never had trouble with these things. We often heard the sound of footsteps running up the stairs when no one was on them. In fact our staircase was in full view of our living room, so we were sure no one was going up or down the steps when we heard the sounds. Well at least there was no one there that we could see using the stairs.

As a kid I knew things I should not have known. I could meet someone and instantly know things about him. You learn quickly not to blurt out what you pick up because people get scared when you can see their secrets. Then of course there is the ghost aspect of being psychic. Yes, I have seen ghosts, though it does not happen all the time. Friends and family have seen things moving on their own in various houses I have lived in. They also have seen apparitions and sometimes felt touched in my different homes. There was even a talking doll that spoke when it did not have batteries in it. So yes, weird things follow me.

However, just because I had lived with all of those things does not mean I wanted to have them in my life. I wanted to be a profiler, not a fortune teller. I always kept that part of my life secret because I understood that I would get nowhere in the profiling field if people knew. Why would I want to jeopardize it by getting involved with the supernatural? The paranormal is the kiss of death in the professional world. Thus, I kept that part of my life private.

I want to give you a little insight into what it takes to become a criminal profiler so you can understand why I did not want to burn my credibility by admitting I was psychic. There were only a handful of us profilers in the world, and I was able to become one outside of the FBI and government. I started by getting
