Be Still: Bible Words of Peace and Comfort
By Chris Wright

About this ebook
There may come a time in our lives when we want to concentrate on God’s many promises of peace and comfort. The Bible readings in this book are for people who need to know what it means to be held securely in the Lord’s loving arms.
Rather than selecting single verses here and there, each reading in this book is a run of several verses. This gives a much better picture of the whole passage in which a favorite verse may be found.
As well as being for personal use, these readings are intended for sharing with anyone in special need, to help them draw comfort from the reading and prayer for that date. Bible reading and prayer are the two most important ways of getting to know and trust Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
The reference to the verses for the day are given, for you to look up and read in your preferred Bible translation.

Introduction
The Bible contains wonderful promises of love and forgiveness for those who turn to God, and frequent words of warning for those who reject him. Although it would be dangerous to ignore the words of warning, there may come a time in our lives when we want to concentrate on God's many promises of peace and comfort. The readings in this book are for people, young or old, who want to know what it means to be held securely in the Lord's comforting arms.
You need to find the Bible verses yourself, and this allows you to use your favorite version. This will be particularly welcomed by older readers who may want to read or hear words that are familiar. Where part of the reading for the day is repeated in the prayer, the wording is from the HOLY BIBLE NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION® (the NIV). Copyright © 1973, 1978, 1984 Biblica. Used by permission of Zondervan. All rights reserved.
There are readings for six months here so you will be repeating your original reading, question and prayer every six months, no matter when you start. You can start on any day of the year. There is no reason why you should not keep going for as many months or years as you want, as long as you find it helpful. However, this book is not intended to take the place of personal Bible reading and prayer.
Here are a few suggestions for going deeper. (There are, of course, many other sources than these.) Visit http://www.christianity.com/bible/ for free online Bible reading plans, in several languages, including The Bible in One Year with 365 readings arranged in chronological order starting on any date you choose. Reading plans are on www.biblegateway.com. See also www.youversion.com for hundreds of free Bible versions in many languages online. www.cwr.org.uk and www.scriptureunion.org.uk are just two publishers of daily Bible-reading notes and other useful study material. Also http://biblesociety.org/. You will also benefit from a Bible commentary -- expensive, but probably a lot cheaper than your phone, tablet or sports kit! If you need help in choosing the most appropriate reading material for yourself, ask your church leader or a Christian bookshop for advice.
As well as being for personal use, these readings are intended for sharing with anyone in need, to help them draw comfort from the Bible reading and the prayer for that date. If these pages raise important questions, discuss them with your pastor or a close Christian friend. Bible reading and prayer are the two most important ways of getting to know and trust Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
