Foreword
This devotional contains 40 promises from God to His children. It is written to the children of God as a source of strength, encouragement and inspiration. These are only a few of the promises God has made to His children. A promise is one’s word to another to perform a certain function or act. The American Heritage Dictionary defines promise as, A declaration assuring that one will or will not do something; a vow.
God has made certain promises to His children as reassurance of His love for and devotion to them. Now a promise is only as good as the person who makes it. The one making the promise must possess the power and authority to fulfill that promise. One of the attributes of God is that He is omnipotent. That simply means God has all, or unlimited power and authority. He is the Almighty God. Nothing or no one can prevent God from keeping His promises or His word to those He makes promises.
Why 40 promises? Forty is a reoccurring number in the bible. God destroyed the earth with a flood by causing rain to fall for 40 days and 40 nights. The total number of days between Jesus death and ascension to heaven was 40 days. Forty days is the exact number of days God had Moses send 12 spies out on a reconnaissance mission of the Promised Land (Numbers 13). In verse 2 God states, Send out for yourself men so that they may spy out the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the sons of Israel; you shall send a man from each of the father’s tribes, every one a leader among them.
Moses does as God instructs and the men return after 40 days (25). They all agree that the land is just as God said it was (27). But 10 of the 12 spies are unable to accept God’s promise to them. All they saw were the obstacles in their way (28-29). Only 2, Caleb and Joshua accepted and received God’s promise (30). If you’ll read on through chapters 13 and 14 you’ll find that the 10 spies that could not accept God’s promise were able to convince all of Israel to reject God’s promise. His promise was that He was giving them the land. God was giving them the land. It came down to faith. Caleb and Joshua placed their faith in God and not their own abilities to make something happen. They were going to have to put forth an effort but the land, as God promised, was theirs. So I chose 40 promises as a means of giving you 40 days of reconnaissance of the word of God.
After 40 days of reading His promises, applying them to your life, and prayer of thanksgiving for His promises it is my hope that you will stand like Caleb and Joshua and accept these and all of God’s promises. You’ll find a rainbow on the cover of this devotional. It is a reminder to us of God’s promise to never send a flood as a means of destruction of earth (Genesis 9:13). Much like the rainbow, we have in our hands, His written word as a reminder that God will keep all of His promises.
I pray that you would enjoy this devotional and it will strengthen, encourage and inspire you to stand on the promises of God. Thank you for your support.
Promise of Life
"Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life."
(John 6:47)
Life is a precious gift given to us by God. None of us asked for it, but we’re all happy He gave it to us. No one ever asked to be born. When we get here and experience life a lot of us are never ready to leave. Even if you have not achieved all of your goals, aspirations and dreams life
is precious. But the truth of this life is that one day it will come to an
