About this ebook

One woman's struggle with illness, her daughter's will to survive, and a circle of friends shrouded in secrets.

"Megan's Way...beautiful and tender portrayals...very enjoyable read on the order of a Jodi Picoult novel. " --The Bookish Dame

What would you give up for the people you love?

When Megan Taylor, a single mother and artist living on Cape Cod, receives the shocking news that her cancer has returned, she's faced with the most difficult decision she's ever had to make. The love she has for her daughter, Olivia, and her closest friends will be stretched and frayed.

Megan’s illness reawakens the torment of her best friend, Holly Townsend, whose long-held secrets and years of betrayal come back to haunt her. How does one choose between a daughter and a life-long best friend? Can the secret she has been keeping be revealed after years of lying without destroying everyone in its wake?

Meanwhile, fourteen-year-old Olivia's world is falling apart right before her eyes, and there's nothing she can do about it. She finds herself acting in ways she cannot even begin to understand. When her internal struggles turn to dangerous behavior, even the paranormal connection she shares with her mother might not be enough to save her - her life will hang in the balance.

Megan’s Way is a journey of self discovery and heartfelt emotions, exploring the depth of the mother-daughter bond, and the intricacies of friendship.

This book is an emotional read. I was very impressed with how the author caught the emotions and experiences of a teen and mom preparing for such a final seperation. I lost my mom when I was 15 years old from cancer and I thought the author did a wonderful job bringing respect and love to this story.

We both read this book for review. We were going to do our own separate thoughts, but the more we discussed the book, the more we realized that our thoughts aligned on the book and how we felt about it.Megan's Way is a tear jerker, no way around it. So if you read it, be prepared to have a box of kleenex next to you.Megan is a single mother (to Olivia) and is dying of cancer. Their mother/daughter relationship was incredibly close, and some of the dialogue felt almost unnatural between the two of them. Olivia doesn't appear to act like a typical 14 year old in that she doesn't seem to have any friends besides her mom. She was also incredibly whiny towards her mother, but this is mostly due to the fact that her mother is in fact dying and not saying anything to her about it.We also felt like some of the scenes were very drawn out and overly long, thus dragging out the sadness. What really kept us reading was the mystery surrounding Olivia's father. As the book progressed it became clear that there were a lot of secrets between the friends and a lot of unexpected twists.

This was a work of elegance, the writing was just a style of emotional grace. I recommend this to all book clubs, so much to discuss especially if it is among close friends. The mystery of the forbidden secrets unfolding, so touching, I was mesmerized. Only friends that are this in tune with each other would keeps these kind of secrets to protect each other, but in the end did it really protect them? The true meaning of God works in mysterious ways.I really enjoyed the title Megan's Way. She was dying from cancer and struggling with leaving her daughter and friends. She didn't want to deteriorate in front of everyone including herself. There were things she decided put in place, it was Megan's Way. The emotions of this circle of friends were so genuine, a special connection indeed. There was also a paranormal element, a feeling, a belief they had on life after death and being able to feel Megan which was easy to believe. When Olivia was hurt, scared etc she was able to feel it. There was a scene where she saved Olivia's life because of this connection. So many special moments, scenes, traditions, friendship history etc. I recommend this one to all fans of Adult Fiction.

loved book so much that I don't know where to start!! Do not miss out on reading this book. Read it before the movie comes out! Melissa Foster has a talent of putting raw emotions into words. By narration, conversation and revealing the characters' thoughts, she wove a story of unique family finding itself. Rarely, have I been so immersed in a book. Megan, the mother, Olivia, the daughter and Megan's close friends all became real to me. Megan is torn between protecting her long time friends from their own secrets and also the panic of realizing that her daughter will soon loose her closest connection, her mother. Both Megan and Olivia are pushed and pulled through a deeply personal journey in this book. At the beginning, Megan Taylor, a woman finds out that her ovarian cancer had spread to the bones of her body. Her doctor tells her all treatment would do is buy her a few months of time. Megan Taylor, a single mother of a fourteen year old girl, had to make a decision for herself that would tear her daughter apart. Would her daughter ever acceppt it? When you read this book, you will be crying. I must admit that I was afraid to take it to an appointment because I might start crying in the doctor's office! But when you read this book, you will also feel the joy of self discovery and the recognition of a family emerging. There is something of the paranormal in this book. Usually, I have trouble reading a book that does but it fit so well, with the experience of death and grief that to take that out of the story would destroy the book. I am going to keep this book in my library and pull it out again for re-reading. I recommend this book for all mothers and daughters and all those going through the experience of grieving.

Megan’s way is a very sad book. The book follows the main character’s cancer return, death and funeral. There were quite a few storyline twists in the relationships among Megan, her daughter and her friends, but in the end the only character I cared about was the child. Without giving away too much of the story, I was annoyed with Megan’s character for something she did to her daughter just before she died. She gave her information that should have been attended to by the adults and not dumped on a child to sort out. Unfortunately the adults seemed to have the "It's all about me" attitude. Also, one of the “twists” nullifies the reason for the special bond between mother and child. Not a bad book, but be prepared to spend a lot of time with the dying and funeral arrangements.

This was a nice debut. The story was touching, the characters were intriguing and the book was infused with a sense of good-feeling spirituality despite difficult topics and unpleasant situations. The only downfall in the story for me was that it tended to be a little repetitive at times, what seemed like filler. I would have liked some more information on the past of the characters since it so clearly shaped them in their present. All in all, well done.

What an amazing debut. This was a very powerful book for me because I can relate to both Megan and Olivia. I know exactly what they are feeling. I had to put the book down a few times just to get through my own grief. This was so beautiful.

I absolutely loved Megan's Way, sneaking it into work to finish it today! Megan, Olivia, Holly, Peter and Jack were all very "real" people. This book had me feeling the full spectrum of emotion... Melissa - I would love to see what life holds for all of these characters in the future, any chance of a "part 2"?

Megan Taylor is an artist full of so much spirit, seems to be the centerpiece of an intimate group of friends, and has a teenage daughter with whom she has a true empathic connection. But, her cozy world starts to unravel when she learns that her cancer is no longer in remission. Longtime secrets begin to haunt her and her best friend, Holly. Secrets that could destroy their close-knit foursome of friends. And as Megan deteriorates, her daughter, Olivia, begins to act out her frustrations.Melissa Foster's debut novel is a lovely effort. She explores the mother-daughter bond in such an intense manner. It's the kind of relationship, I think that all daughters want with their mothers. And the circle of friends! They are such a loving and supportive bunch. Foster has given us a set of very realistic characters that are regular people. Also, she presents ideas of spirituality in a way that's not obnoxious but is unapologetic. Everything is set against a picturesque Cape Cod. This makes even the toughest moments in the book a little more palatable than had they occurred anywhere else. It adds to the warm and fuzzy feeling that much of the book presents. At its core, I would say that this is a story that depicts love transcending everything.I really appreciate the author's simple language and real characters. All the imagery was wonderful without being weighty. And including a scene that brought a level of discomfort was very smart. Megan's Way is a great read and a solid debut for Melissa Foster.
