1. The Characteristics of a Chinese Shar-Pei Puppy and Dog
––––––––
Who said wrinkles make you look bad and ugly? Have you seen the Chinese Shar-Pei, they are super cute and cuddly. The Chinese Shar-Pei looks like an old hag in human form, but is a very active and energetic dog to say the least. They have sharp teeth and eyes that are small and almond shaped. The coat and the eyes of the Chinese Shar-Pei match one another. They have ears that are triangular and a thick tapered tail as well. The Chinese Shar-Pei breed has dogs with both small and large heads and it is said when they are puppies, the wrinkles on them are more than when they are adults.
The Chinese Shar-Pei comes in three varieties of coats, namely rare bear coat, horse coat and brush coat. The coat of the Chinese Shar-Pei comes in all colors and hues, some of the dogs also have tiny spots, but this is rare, say breeders. The breed is extremely loyal to their masters, and if you test their intelligence, you would be surprised. They love to play and sometimes are very dominant over others around, but the breed is not a coward, they display bravery at all costs. They have a strong bonding with the family they live with and would socialize with strangers as well. As pups when they socialize with humans and other animals around, they tend to be very friendly when they grow.
Since the Chinese Shar-Pei is calm and composed, they make excellent watchdogs and super cool companions, but you need to be very confident when handling them. Don’t be too soft or too harsh with them, or they would not listen to you and wouldn’t follow you as their leader. As an authoritative figure around, you have to show the Chinese Shar-Pei that you are the leader of the pack and not otherwise! If they see themselves as one of you, the Chinese Shar-Pei would never want to be your pet, but would want to be your master. In such cases, the Chinese Shar-Pei wouldn’t listen to your heed and call.
Although the Chinese Shar-Pei hates water, they are generally cleaner than other breeds and would need little training on housebreaking. Speak to your vet about the health of the Chinese Shar-Pei, they have issues with their kidneys and are susceptible to fevers and other issues. They don’t have skin problems because of their wrinkles, but yes, some of them do have skin issues, which should be taken care of by the vet.
If you live in an apartment, you could keep the Chinese Shar-Pei, but ensure the dog is taken for daily walks and exercises. Grooming should be done every day, brush the dog daily and since they shed less, you needn’t worry about the clumps here and there. However, if there were someone at home who is allergic to dog hair, you would want to take extra measures for the same.
Finally, yes, you could have the Chinese Shar-Pei as a pet and you would love having this super cool friend around!
2. What You Should Know About Puppy Teeth
––––––––
There is no doubt about it; puppies are going to chew on things! Dogs will have 28 baby teeth, and 42 permanent teeth. When a puppy is roughly, 2 to 3 weeks old, their baby teeth start to come in. All their baby teeth should be in place by roughly 8 weeks of age.
The puppy’s new teeth are very tiny and sharp, and will hurt your fingers when they get a hold of them. Most mothers will start to wean their babies at 5 to 6 weeks old.
Your puppies baby teeth will start to come out around 8 to 12 weeks of age. By roughly 8 months old, your dog’s permanent teeth should all be in. You should make sure that all baby teeth are out, so that a tooth is not left in, and another one comes in and crowds the space, and gives your dog pain. You would need to visit the vet if you see this happening.
Your puppy is going to want to chew on something, just like a real baby, their teeth are coming in, and they want to relieve some of the pain. It is good for them to chew, to help the teeth come thru. You would want to get some appropriate chew items to help
