Bleu felt the mingling of conversation heat with tension before she even opened the door to the student lounge. Just a few quick breaths. She placed her hand on the cold, worn brass door handle and pulled the door open.
The fluorescent lights hit her eyes hard, and the sting of the buzz left a ring in her ears. She clutched her notebook close to her chest and walked passed unassuming eyes—that from her perspective seemed to slice into her like sharpened knives.
She noticed two people in the corner look away from here and resume their conversation. Are they laughing at me? They’re laughing at me.
