      What Does a Beer Tub Girl Do?

      Beer tub girls (also known as beer barrel girls) are found working in dance clubs, night clubs and show lounges (strip bars). I worked as a beer barrel girl at the bar I did my first bikini contest at and I was very fortunate to learn some handy tricks from one of the best beer tub girls around: the girl who ran the bikini contests in the area. (I remember her having the title of Miss Canada. The year, I can’t remember.) Watching her work the beer tub and listening to her advice, I followed her lead.

      If you’re not sure what a beer tub girl is, she’s the girl who stands beside a beer tub and sells bottles of beer sitting in ice when you first set foot into a bar. She’ll be good looking and is good for the bar because customers don’t have to go stand in line or wait for a server to grab their first drink. Sometimes customers have their heart set on draft beer or a cocktail, but if the beer tub girl is very persistent and good at her job, usually the customer can be swayed to buy what she’s selling.

      The advantages of being a beer barrel girl:

      You don’t have to walk around the room to your customers. They come to you.

      You don’t spend time wiping tables, picking up empties and pushing in chairs. You just stand in one spot and do your job.

      You’re offering a product NOW to your patron. They don’t have to stand in a line up or wait for a server to get them a drink.

      You get to flirt and talk to all the hot guys and you won’t get in trouble for spending time talking to them if they hang around your beer tub. You’re chatting with and working the customers (this is called customer relations).

      Depending on the establishment, SOMETIMES the beer tub girl is not expected to ID customers, since usually that is the doorman’s job. If there is no doorman, she will need to ID customers if needed.

      Some disadvantages of working the beer barrel:

      You’re limited to the brands of beer in your tub. You can’t offer every type your bar carries.

      You can’t cater to every customer since you don’t serve cocktails or draft beer.

      If you get busy and run out of beer, you may have to wait until a doorman or DJ has a spare moment to get you another case of beer. Same goes for running out of change or small bills.

      If you need to use the restroom, you can’t run off until someone watches your beer and money.

      Once your customer buys a beer and leaves, he may continue ordering from the server. When people find a chair, some won’t leave the comfort of it until they need to use the restroom.

      The beer tub is usually situated near the door and the cold will affect you during the chilly months as the door is being opened and closed constantly.

      The beer tub girl will be stared at, hit on, eye-balled and propositioned. There will be days when she won’t be in the mood for it.

      Once in a while, the beer tub girl may have to deal with the jealous female customer.

      The beer tub girl can’t do this job forever. Young women getting into the bar industry are usually the girls working this job.

      The beer tub girl may be expected to work New Years Eve, Christmas and other busy, money-making holidays.

      Most guys think that the beer tub girl is single and available. Some think that just because she works at a club half naked, she’s looking for someone to hook up with and go home with them.

      The Beer Tub Girl’s Personality and Looks

      If you think that you’ll sell lots of beer just because you’re pretty, you’re in for a big surprise. To be a money-making beer tub girl, you have to have a lot more than just good looks. You need to be friendly, outgoing, and energetic. Remember, you are the fantasy girl so you want to talk, look and act sexy. This isn’t the time to talk like a truck driver, burp and talk about farting, no matter how funny it is.

      You’re one of the first girls the customers notice when they walk into the bar, so you want to be dolled up to the nines! You want full make-up and hair done, while wearing a cute little outfit. You don’t want to look trashy, but you do want to look classy and hot. I’ve seen beer barrel girls make the mistake of wearing ripped-up shorts and beat-up sneakers … ugh!

      The beer tub girl is the eye candy in the room so she has to be good looking and have some sex appeal. She must be fun, energetic, have excellent energy which customers will feed off of and a great personality since she will be connecting with people. She must be super friendly since customers will be approaching her. This is a job which requires her to do some light flirting and work the clientele.

      When I got hired to sell beer as a beer tub girl over 20 years ago, I was encouraged to wear club wear. When I got hired at the strip club where I work at now, it was mandatory I wear a swim suit. The more skin you show, the more money you make and
