Curtain rises to the small home of the recently widowed KEITA and her daughter MOIRA. Keita stands over a simmering cauldron of milk over the hearth fire. She stirs with a long handled wooden spoon, the sleeves of her simple green woollen tunic rolled up neatly and out of the way as she stirs. A safe distance from the hearth fire is a table on which is placed two blue-glazed bowls. Two open weave kerchiefs are folded neatly to the side along with two small heavy towels. To the side is a pitcher containing the rennet from a lamb slaughtered the day before.
MOIRA
Tell me a story, Mother!
KEITA
(carefully stirs the milk)

MOIRA
(handing Keita the pitcher containing the rennet)
Tell me about our people.
KEITA
