      There are many different ways to approach a hip joint posteriorly. The literature however elucidates mainly the one originally described by Kocher and Langenbeck followed by descriptions of small versions of it in which tendon-to-bone sutures usually fail. The booklet from Prof. K. Mohan Iyer nicely describes alternative posterior approaches to overcome suture failure. The pull-out strength in vitro of different small osteotomies including the origin of the small external rotator muscles without separating the trochanteric massif are compared. The work is the logical fundament of the authors modification and nicely completes the surgeon's vision.
