Legends of a Lion - Raynandole E. Poindexter

    Barham

    Preface

I began writing this book over two years ago. However, an unfortunate invasion of my home resulting in its extraction delayed the process. I must say that something very intimate was taken from me that day, as I had put my all into every word. However, I just couldn’t see myself walking away from something so wonderful. I somehow gained the strength and confidence to re-create it and went back to work! It was very difficult finding the space needed to write confidently. I sometimes found myself driving to different states looking for inspirational sceneries, which was very helpful. I also had the opportunity to work and interact with various artists for the musical component of this book. Although, it was extremely challenging, I was truly blessed with one of the best musical artworks imaginable. The process of this creation was an awesome journey within itself. It was very memorable and gratifying. I am not sure where things go from here, but I am very optimistic.

    Introduction

The primary purpose of these words is to initiate positive change within the world by initiating profound conversations based on its subject matter. I also wanted to properly introduce myself to the world as a writer by giving people my perspective(s). I want them to truly understand who and why I am. This book is not meant to persuade the thoughts, feelings and/or views of its readers. Its purpose is to plant seeds of humane evolution. Although I take very bold stances on sensitive topics, I want people to know that my outlook(s) on them are evolving continuously. So much so that I even feel differently about many of my own perspectives now that I have completed the book. However, I found it unethical to change my literature in fear of compromising its integrity. You will find that I use (Most High) when referencing spirituality. I want people to know that the term should not be interpreted traditionally, as I am still searching spiritually and I typically refer to The Creator as the Architect of the Universe. I believe in something greater than humanity, but not in the traditional sense that most people of religious organizations do. I just thought it would be best to simplify things for the sake of my purpose. I continuously remind readers that my intention is not to disrespect anyone in any way with my words. It is simply to provide insight and provoke new thoughts. So without further ado…

    CHAPTER 1: THE END

This is what I call the end of the beginning. We know that life starts when we exit the womb and that each person has a purpose in this world. However, before we are able to understand our purpose, we must first understand who we are. Therefore, we have to find ourselves. Although I believe that our upbringing, experiences and choices account for a large portion of our psychological make-up; I think it is pretty safe to say that we struggle with accepting that we are who we’re meant to be rather than who we want to be. I find that people spend most of their early life projecting who they think the world wants them to be. This is mostly due to the expectations of friends, family, children or associates.

I remember as a child being several different characters depending on where I was, what was going on and who was around. For example, if I was in class at school with no friends in a particular class, I was a very involved and proactive student. On the other hand, if I was on my neighborhood block around drugs, girls, and friends; I was either selling drugs, courting women or running the streets. At 17 years old, I juggled school, sports, girls, a job, selling drugs and gang affiliation. Although I was very aware of my actions, most of these things were reflections of outside influences. I never seen them as part of my future and was well into my adult years before actually understanding, realizing and admitting to myself who I really was. With that being said, let me tell you who I believe I am before I go any further. I’m a good man, smart, driven; concrete and I always have something to say. I am very opinionated, strong minded, which causes me to see things one sided. I have not always been the best father, but I’m getting better at it. I have double standards, an attitude that offends people at times and far from perfect. I believe in a higher power, but struggle with finding my path at times. I say this to say, I know who I am and I’m ok with it because I am a work in progress. I believe that self-understanding is the only way to truly identify your purpose on earth. We have to understand that there were many before us, many with us, and something after us. You were created for a specific reason and the plan is never flawed. Therefore, you owe it to yourself to find your purpose and serve it humbly. There is no particular formula for accomplishing this. However, I suggest you start with asking yourself ‘Am I ready to be honest with myself?’ I found that one of the hardest things to do in life is to be honest with self. It’s easier to admit whom you are to others, than to yourself. For example, have you ever found yourself admitting something that you realized about yourself to someone you trust? I’m sure most of us have without realizing 9 times out of 10, these people have already noticed this about you. We do this often times to offset our denial. Telling someone who already knows you about yourself does nothing for you. You have to ask yourself ‘Who am I?’ Once you are ready to be honest and ask yourself that question, it’s time to take yourself on this cerebral expedition. This journey is 10 percent verbal and 90 percent mental, meaning that only a small portion of it involves outside communications. Most of it is self-talks and realization. You must be able to step outside of yourself, back away and look at every aspect of your life. This includes spiritually, socially, physically, morally and culturally. Take all of these things and weigh them against your experiences, relationships, goals, dreams and current lifestyle. Now, try to find a respectable balance between who you were, who you are and who you are trying to be. If you are being honest with yourself, then every ‘stupid’ thing you did in the past will no longer be regretful, who you are today will be very comfortable and who you are trying to be will be very encouraging. If there is any level of regret, uneasiness or discouragement; re-evaluate your level of self-honesty because somewhere along your journey, you left something out. I truly believe that the creator gave this world a perfect you. Your mistakes were already known and a plan that reflects such was already in place. However, the intent was for you to learn from these mistakes so that you would understand the purpose for you and carry it out courageously. Only you, with spiritual guidance, can find yourself. There are not two of you so there is no way that any of us can be on the same path. Therefore, we must stop relying on others to show us who we are and figure it out on our own. Everyone has to find his or her own way. We all know right from wrong instinctively, but sometimes lose sight of our morals and values. You can’t judge anything before evaluating you first. Remember, you will never be perfect. Therefore, you have to focus on your pursuit of truth and happiness, which begins with you. Finding you is finding your way and we must believe that there is something more perfect than we can imagine here on earth. One thing is for sure; you are supposed to make this world better. How can you do this if you don’t know who you are? Be brutally honest with yourself about what’s in your heart so that it will make sense in your head. I realized I spent too much time questioning the most high about why things in my life happened, rather than admitting it was because I ignored what was in my heart, which caused a lot of confusion in my head. However, another day given means there is a plan for you. Therefore, be mindful and take initiative! As for me, I’m going to continue being honest with myself and take chances on my goals.

    CHAPTER 2: WHAT HAPPENED

I often find myself wondering ‘What happened’? What happened to the world and why is it so mixed up? I believe in God to the extent of there being something greater than humanity that’s responsible for our miraculous world and our existence. Although I respect it, I don’t know that I can get all of my answers from the bible. Furthermore, I am still disgusted at how much we have lost sight of basic morals and values. Ninety percent of this world displays a total disregard for what our creator has given us. I know that, per the bible, this is supposed to happen and believers have to prepare themselves for a better place. However, I cannot bring myself to accepting these things as normal. There are so many areas I want to discuss so for the sake of structure; I will outline these aspects as I touch on them.

    MAN vs. GOD

For some odd reason, people believe in the power of man over the power of the most high. We depend on political figures to lead us, doctors to save us, police to protect us and government to provide for us. However, these people are only human and just as imperfect as we are. They did not create this world so they don’t have the ability to fix it. They only have the power that we give them, which is nonexistent since we have no power. It is not possible for one man to have the answers for something he did not create. For example, if I pass down a family heirloom to my child I can only tell him/her that I inherited it. I cannot explain why it looks, smells or feels the way it does because I am not its creator. Therefore, I have to refer to its history for
