You may have considered meditation and mindfulness to be basically the same thing. But I suggest a different metaphor to conceptualize them that can help in developing a mindfulness habit.
Meditation is like the training or practice grounds. It isn't the goal in and of itself. Many people think that they must sit lotus style on a zafu (meditation cushion) in order to be mindful or develop a mindfulness habit. Not necessarily.
You don't need the formal trappings. They can help, but don't let them be a hinderance to the actual mindful awareness that you are trying to develop in daily life.
In this book, I will assume that you already know what mindfulness is, and you don't need an explanation or specific instructions on how to be mindful, per se. What you are having trouble with is sticking to the practice. You
