ABOUT THE AUTHOR
INTRODUCTION
It is the expectation of believers to experience open heavens. They pray for an open heaven. They exercise faith for an open heaven. They walk in righteousness for an open heaven. Open heavens lead to the outpouring of God’s mercy, blessings and power from heaven, upon those who desire His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven.
God reveals Himself to people, speaks to them and performs His will when heaven opens. Life on earth without heavenly influence is spiritually barren. Without the open heaven effect, believers can do little.
The author of the book of Deuteronomy mentions an open heaven as an act of God that released blessings upon the people of Israel. Heaven is the receptacle that carries God’s good treasure, which He releases upon the people on earth. He blesses the work of our hands from heaven and gives us the ability to support others.
12 The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.
Deuteronomy 28:12
The opposite of an open heaven is a closed heaven. A closed heaven may be defined as a situation in which God does not release His blessings upon people from heaven but on the contrary, adverse natural occurrences, diseases, curses, poverty and demonic activities pervade the atmosphere. A feeling of intense heaviness characterises a closed heaven. A closed heaven is a heaven of brass. The book of Deuteronomy does not only mention an open heaven but also a heaven of brass, which releases spiritual rain of powder and dust.
23 And thy heaven that is over thy head shall be brass, and the earth that is under thee shall be iron.
24 The LORD shall make the rain of thy land powder and dust: from heaven shall it come down upon thee, until thou be destroyed.
Deuteronomy 28:23-24
The prophets of Israel constantly admonished them to strive to have an open heaven over the land. A closed heaven was the sign of a curse whereas an open one was the sign of a blessing. The prophet Malachi assured the Israelites that if they obeyed God and brought their tithes and offerings to the storehouse, He would open the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing upon them.
10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
Malachi 3:10
God does not merely SPRINKLE OR DROP His blessings upon people when heaven opens up – He POURS OUT His blessings. People who live and operate under a closed heaven may experience a few blessings here and there but not overflowing blessings. An open heaven with its attendant blessings is God’s reward for obedience. When believers please Him, He opens heaven up and releases His blessings and favour upon them. Believers who know the impact of an open heaven on their lives are expectant of those blessings.
No one is so self-sufficient that he or she does not need an open heaven to fulfil God’s purpose. During the earthly life of Jesus Christ, heaven opened up to usher in His ministry. Although He is God manifested in the flesh, Jesus Christ depended on the heavenly influence of the Father and the Holy Ghost to execute His mandate on earth. Heaven opened up and God testified of Jesus Christ when He was baptised by John the Baptist at the River Jordan.
21 Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,
22 And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.
Luke 3:21-22
In this book, we will study the above scripture reference in order to follow Jesus Christ’s example to obtain an open heaven over our lives and ministries. We will unearth Jesus Christ’s attitude that earned Him an open heaven and the impact of the open heaven on Him. The secret behind His victorious life on earth was an open heaven. This open heaven did not just happen – Jesus Christ took intentional steps to make heaven open upon Him. Simply wishing does not cause heaven to open but taking deliberate action in the right direction does.
Luke 3:21 uses the expression, … Jesus also being baptized …
. We may be tempted to ignore this phrase, since it does not look significant with casual observation. In the first and second chapters of this book, we will examine this expression with the view of critically looking at the attitude Jesus had that made heaven open over Him. His life is a perfect example for those who want to please God with their lives.
Chapter 1
… JESUS ALSO
Believers all over the world are in constant expectation of an open heaven that releases the outpouring of the Holy Ghost and spiritual blessings. The challenge we face is how to let God open heaven over our lives. Jesus Christ’s life and ministry reveal the secrets of tapping into an outpouring of the Holy Spirit under an open heaven. Anticipation without the right attitude is vain. While Jesus Christ’s
