This book could prompt the discussion on patterns we see in communicating through nonverbal communication. This book shows a pattern in birds doing different things, such as stretching out feathers, to communicate to others. Students could look for similar patterns in other birds and even other species. This aligns with crosscutting concept #1: patterns.

A wonderful science book about birds and the way they communicate. Its a great book to show kids the different types of birds. It talks about how they communicate to breed and even in something is wrong. They have certain calls for their young and how they talk with us. Everything a bird needs and uses their voice for. Very educational book for all ages.

This is a really cool book if you or your kids want to learn about birds in a creative way. It goes through a lot of birds and what they might be saying based on their natural behaviors. I would share this book.

Yes, there have been many books about birds for children (there are at least three in this batch of Cybils nominees) but this book is the definitive children's book for one aspect of birds: bird talk. Lita Judge shares all the quirky little-known information she could find with us, her readers, about where and when and how and why birds communicate. Add to the fascinating information big bold drawings of birds and you have a book that children will linger over. Wonderful book.
