good options for vintage bags. I'd use something other than the cardboard they recommend for interlining

A Collection of Vintage Sewing Patterns for the Making of Accessories for Women - Old Hand Books

Summer Bag (right, above). This takes 2 3/4 yards 2 1/8-inch wide braid and 4 1/2 yards of 1-inch width in a contrast design. For lining, allow 1/8 yard of check gingham, for base a 7 1/2-inch circle of card; mouth of bag is drawn up inside with 1 yard of fine cord.

For sides of bag cut three 24-inch strips of wide braid and four of narrow; join side by side, lapping narrow over wide braid slightly. Cut gingham lining the size of whole piece plus turnings on long edges. Cut two 19-inch strips of narrow braid for handles, then for base, join remainder of both braids in alternate strips, wide one in centre, to make a piece plenty large enough to cover card. Cut down turnings to 1 inch and cover card, sticking turnings to other side; face with lining.
