PREFATORY NOTE
THE CLASSIFICATION and dating of Persian embroideries is extremely difficult in the absence of any reliable documentary or other evidence. The scheme suggested in the present Guide should therefore be regarded as experimental, and it has been issued in the hope that it may encourage the study of this beautiful work. The Guide has been prepared by Mr. Leigh Ashton of the Department of Textiles under the direction of Mr. A. J.
