Elegant
BASIC AFGHAN STITCH
Work a chain of specified length.
Row 1–First Half: Skip first chain from hook.* Insert hook thru top loop only of next chain. Yarn over hook (1A). Draw yarn thru chain, forming loop on hook. Retain loop on hook (1B). Rep from* across chain (1C). There will be the same number of loops on hook as number of chains.
Row 1–Second Half: Yarn over hook and draw thru first loop (2A).* Yarn over and draw thru 2 loops (2B). Rep from* across row until there is 1 loop on hook (2C). This loop is first st for next row.
Row 2–First Half: Insert hook in 2nd bar (vertical st), yarn over hook, draw loop thru bar, forming loop on hook (3A). Retain loop on hook. Continue drawing up a loop thru each bar to last (3B and 3Cb) bar, draw up loop thru front and back strand of last bar to form a firm edge.
Row 2–Second Half: Same as 2nd half of Row 1.
Rep Row 2 for pattern.
TO BIND OFF: Slip st across row as follows:* Draw up loop in bar and thru loop on hook. Rep from* across. Break yarn and draw thru last loop.

AFGHAN STITCH: ROW 1–SECOND HALF
AFGHAN STITCH: ROW 2–FIRST HALF
