About this ebook
Greta Nissen was a lovely Norwegian beauty with fair skin and enchanting blue eyes. Her mother started her out early in dancing and ballet. When the girl was just six years of age she entered the Royal Opera of Copenhagen where she acquired additional training. In 1924 Greta came to the United States for the first time. She played the fairy princess in a stage production of Beggar On Horseback. During her stint in the play Greta was discovered by Jesse L. Lasky of Famous Players-Lasky. The Lasky studio soon became Paramount Pictures and Greta Nissen was among Paramount's most popular stars.

From her earliest childhood Greta was groomed for the stage and opera in her native Norway. She entered movies mostly due to circumstances. She tells this in a syndicated newspaper article that was written by Mel C. Mormon in 1933. Titled How I Broke Into Movies, Nissen explains that she became an actress because of her early environment and training.
By the time she began to walk her mother had given her instruction in dancing steps. She placed her daughter with the Royal Opera of Copenhagen, Denmark at the age of six. Greta learned to dance there and completed a regular course of education for children her age.
King Haakon VII (1872-1957) and Queen Maud of Norway (1869-1938) noticed Greta’s work during the later portion of her tenure with the Royal Opera. She remained with the opera for ten years. During this time she developed a talent for pantomime along with increasing her dancing skills.
The king and queen’s influence helped the young woman to win a contract with the National Theatre of Scandinavia. At the age of
