Chapter One
The Kingdom of Israel
From Abraham (1929-1758 Bc)
to David King of Israel (1004-972 Bc)
1929 Not Worth a Dime
The entire human race is worthless. None of us counts for anything. Everyone of us is a cheap life that is worth absolutely nothing. The great gods above, can, at their pleasure, wipe us out completely, and without a second thought, or regret. We mean nothing to the great gods more than a rabble of disposable slaves. And as disposable and worthless slaves, we must daily grovel and beg the great gods above to have mercy upon us and spare us the worst of their punishments.
And so, my friend, may I suggest to you, in the name of Nanna, that you and your worthless family and loved ones are not worth a dime to him or to the rest of the gods. Now, listen here brother; you are nothing but a worthless slave, do not ever believe anyone telling you that you are of a great value or precious.
You, too—come here, sister slave, come close now—you are not worth a dead beast to the gods; understand? You, too, are born to wait upon the mighty gods and serve them as their personal maid. This here, sister, is your purpose in life. In fact, there is only one reason the great gods stooped down and shaped you and the rest of us, the beggars that we are, and that reason is to wait upon them and serve them as their personal slaves.
Are you listening here, the two of you? Now I am trying to tell you all along here that it would not have been any losses to the great gods if the two of you did not exist at all; do you understand?
No, you do not. It seems to me that the two of you cannot understand that the gods have no use for you except as slaves – submissive and unquestioning slaves. You are too hostile and too arrogant to understand your insignificance.
Perhaps those two are not hostile at all but rather wondering why the gods need human slaves to begin with.
The great Moon God Nanna does not have to explain himself to slaves, neither does his preacher here.
It also seems to me that these unhappy two here do not realize that the gods of slavery are also gods of lust.
Perhaps our preacher of Nana (Nanna) will let them know, so now keep listening to him.
I am going to warn the two of you here that you will be punished, severely punished, if you do not submit to the gods instead of questioning their orders.
And I do not yet see on your faces that you are willing to submit to the prescribed daily obligation of begging and groveling. In fact, I am beginning to get the feeling here that you are not very happy at all that you are not worth a dime.
But do not worry about your insignificance. The two of you are allowed to indulge in your lusts whichever way you wish. Oh, yes, of course you can indulge. Since you are cheap and not worth a dime to the gods, you are not worth a dime to one another either. You seem to be pleasantly surprised! Yes, you can lust after one another or slaughter one another. Do whatever you lust after, as long as you confess that you are worthless slaves.
Nanna is great!
And you can lust as much as you wish.
Great is Nanna for sure!
You are worthless slaves.
Nanna is talking.
And above all, you should be grateful that the gods will give you wings to fly around like birds in the hereafter.
Thanks be to the gods. Thanks be to the gods.
Haran, Abram’s younger brother was born around here, not far from the marshes of Ur, our famous natural landmark. Did you see the marshes? Well, they are a watery mess of endless swamps and lagoons where the large, grey water buffaloes go for a refreshing dip. And everywhere you look, you will see thickets of tall and dense reeds all over the marshes. The reeds of the marshes grow dense like a thick forest that you cannot peer through even if you wanted to do so. I tell you, these swamps are a good hiding place for all kinds of things. Any way, the people who saw the swamps for the first time were very astonished how high and thick the reeds grow there. But it is true; the reeds there grow twice as tall as the men who saw them. And I saw even much taller ones.
But here too in Ur is the home of the god Nanna, the moon god, whom our Semite neighbors call Sin. The god Nanna, when he is away from the sky, comes and lives here in Ur city, up in the tall tower, the Ziggurat, our greatest landmark of all.
As you may know, the religion of our moon god Nanna or Sin is an old religion. It could have been around here before the lagoons took shape, who knows? What we know for sure is that our ancestors had for a long time made the crescent the symbol of the religion of the god Sin.
The above is an ancient tablet showing the Babylonian king Ur-Nammu bestowing governorship, circa 2100 BC, (about 170 years before Abraham). Note the crescent above the king. His city Ur was a major centre of the worship of the moon god Sin. Incidentally, the symbol of the religion of Islam is also a crescent or a crescent and a star. The image is courtesy of the British Museum Trustees.
But Sin is not the only god in the skies. Although, all said and done, the main idea of his religion is really similar to the main idea of all the religions of the other gods; sure I can show you.
If you leave our Ur and row your boat further north, upstream, on the Euphrates River, you will of course come to Babylon. I am sure you know that Babylon is the holy city and home of the god Marduk whose worshippers daily praise his fifty names
inside the Esagila, his temple. Now the priests of the god Marduk will teach you that Marduk has created us for the single purpose of making us his slaves and bondsmen. We are born to be his working slaves while we live here on earth. And when we die, Marduk will send the good ones of us down under where we will fly around like birds. Now you can see that whether you go to the god Marduk or to the god Nanna, you will come out with the same thing: you are worth nothing more than a slave who in the hereafter will fly around like a bird. I told you all religions are the same.
But you started to say something about a man by the name of Haran and his brother Abram.
Yes I did. Abram is the preacher whose religion is different from all of our religions.
But of course the gods and the spirits are not all males like the gods Sin and Marduk. There are female gods, and there are female spirits and jinns too. In fact, long before the lagoons were shaped, the temples here and everywhere were full of figurines of goddesses - naked ones, as you know. You must have heard of the holy statue in Arpachiab of the goddess with the large sexual organ. And you must have heard of the figurine of the naked goddess folding her arms around her large, and -some say- tattooed breasts. Anyway, I do not need to tell you that the temples are full of figurines and idols of the male and female gods and goddesses who live in the sky, do I? Are you not a religious man?
And I am sure that you know that besides the figurines of the gods and goddesses, the temples are also full of pottery vessels for magic use.
But you know what? All this sort of stuff does not sit well with a few, and it definitely does not sit well with the older brother of Haran, for apparently he does not take very well to the gods of fear and lust. As I told you, his religion is different from all of ours.
At any rate, it was around here in Ur of the Chaldeans of southern Mesopotamia, near the marshes of the Euphrates River, in the land of Sumer and Akkad, that Haran, the young brother of Abram, was born. As for Abram himself, no one knows for sure where he was born. What everyone knows for sure is that the family of Terah, the father of Abram and Haran, although not an Amorite family, has lived and traveled amongst the Amorite people.
As for Abram’s wife Sarah; well, she is a Hittite woman. She comes from a land close to Europe, and some men, even princes, say that she is extremely beautiful or very fair
as they put it.
Eze 16:3 thy father was an Amorite, and thy mother an Hittite.

The Friend of the One and Only Holy God
I suppose it is not a secret that the believers of the religions of the god Nanna of Ur of the Chaldeans and the believers of the god Marduk of Babylon live in permanent fear of their frightening gods. But this, of course, is what you should expect slaves to feel towards their powerful and unpredictable masters.
On the other hand, Abram, Haran’s oldest brother is not frightened of his God. For it appears that Abram had lived through experiences that proved to him that his God actually cared for him and loved to commune with him in more ways than one. And so Abram has come to understand that God has made him, and made everyman and every woman, for the joy and pleasure that their companionship can bring to the One and Almighty. And so, Abram has made a jump of understanding, if you wish, that he is not a slave but a friend, a friend of the owner of the property of earth. Basically, Abram is telling us that we can bring joy to God’s heart.
