Village of Long Life
How would you like to live to one hundred years old without any of the aches and pains of aging, poor eyesight or dementia, without disease? Have you wanted to turn back on your aging skin? Do you want lines and wrinkles to disappear or an instant facelift? It sounds pretty good and there is a place where that might be possible.
Come visit Yuzuri Hara, the Village of Long Life, two hours outside of Tokyo, where people routinely live into their nineties without any of the usual signs of aging. In fact, more than ten percent of the villagers are 85 or older, ten times our national norm. The villagers enjoy excellent health, even though some of the villagers have unhealthy habits, such as smoking or unprotected sun exposure. Specifically, a 93-year-old farmer has worked in the fields in the sun for fifty years without once using the protection of sun block; yet, his skin is soft and smooth.
Cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s—all are practically unheard of in this village.
The amazing anti-aging benefits of this miracle compound found in their diet were discovered only a few years ago.
The village is in a particularly hilly region, making rice cultivation difficult, so the people rely on raising a variety of starchy root vegetables. One of the major contributing factors to such circumstances is the high level of hyaluronic acid and its precursors available in these foods.
Like many of his peers who routinely live into their 90s and longer, Tadanao Takahashi was 93 at the time of the report and was in good health. Meanwhile, every morning, Hiroshi Sakamoto would wake up and farm his field, usually for about four or five hours a day. Sakamoto was 86 years old. But his age by no means made him the elder statesman of his village, nor is a daily routine like his uncommon among his peers.
These villagers have found the secret of long life in their traditional diet, which is unique. Unlike other regions of Japan that grow rice, Yuzuri Hara’s hilly terrain is better suited to harvesting different carbohydrate-rich foods rich in sticky starches that may prove healthier: things like satsumaimo, a type of sweet potato; satoimo, a sticky white potato; konyaku, a gelatinous root vegetable concoction; and imoji, a potato root. These foods just
