      Tribute to Ma

      My grandmother Maggie Louise (Ulmer) Smith, born to Sam and Mary Ulmer in Salem Al, was the best grandmother anyone could ever hope for. She stood only about 5 ft. and was a very humble and sweet lady. There are not many days that go by that I don't think about her. The influence that she has over my life even today as I place my glasses underneath my pillow, I remembered that's what she did each night. My grandmother was a true leader. She was one of the best types of leaders, one that didn't need the spotlight. She was the type that was always doing; the type that you are not afraid to follow. I don’t believe she even knew that she was a leader. I remember her being very patient with me. I was a very talkative child (well at least around my family) and I'm still very opinionated. She would applaud me for things like this. She always found a way to put a good positive spin on my actions. Oh you're going to be a lawyer one day, she would say because you talk so much. When I would tell her I wanted to be a doctor, she would do nothing more than and tell me that I could be anything I want it to be and I believed her. I always felt like I had her attention, I always felt loved and that I was special. She gave me the confidence that I could go out and do anything and most importantly she believed in me and I knew it. Great leaders create other great leaders. She spoke into
