How to Gain Weight and Build Muscle for Skinny Guys - Gavin P. Alexander
THE TRUTH
The reality is that all those ultra ripped, or huge dudes you see in magazines or Online are not the norm. They have superior genetics to us, and they can basically look at a dumbbell and get bigger arms than you ever will.
There is no getting away from this, it is just the way it is. We are all born with our own set of genetics, and this is going to limit how big you can get, period. I am not even going to get into the world of steroids and the like, they are not something advocated by me, and neither do I have any knowledge of them.
The truth is that if you are skinny, and weak, or lack much muscle then you can improve dramatically on what you were born with in terms of genetics. But you are never going to be a beast when stood next to one of those guys.
What you can do, over the next year, is to totally transform how you currently look, and you will look better than basically every other man on the planet. Genetic super humans aside.
And it all comes down to simply eating and training in a way that allows you to progress from week to week, and month to month.
All those magazines and articles you read? They are there for one reason only, to sell you stuff that doesn't work for the most part. The truth is that a sound eating plan, and a sound training program, is going to get you where you want to be. And that is having a ton of extra muscle on your frame, without a load of fat.
If all you want to do is gain weight then just eat ice cream all day, every day for a month. The skinniest dude can gain weight if they eat tubs of the stuff non stop all day. But you will look stupid. Chances are you will simply end up skinny fat
, if you aren't at the moment. And that is a protruding belly with a thick layer of fat on the rest of your frame, but skinny at the same time due to a lack of any kind of muscular development. It's a common look, and one that we want to get away from.
What is needed is a way to eat that allows us to gain weight, but the weight needs to be muscle for the most part. And this book can help you to achieve just that.
There is no magic way to pack on slabs of muscle in a few months, it won't happen. The body is simply not geared up to gain at that kind of a rate. But a couple of pounds a month is do-able for most guys, if they are new to training, or have not been training the right way up until now.
You need to forget what you have already read in other places, unless you have been lucky enough to have read some sensible advice from well respected figures. But most skinny guys will have been caught up in traditional bodybuilding reading, where 6-8 meals a day and 6 day a week resistance training in this norm.
This is not going to work for you, especially the training part. Skinny guys are often hardgainers, in fact nearly all are, and it means you need to take a radically different approach to training than the guys that are basically jacked at birth.
Over time training volume can be increased, but for most people a year or two of relatively low volume training will deliver far superior results to jumping into training that involves more than 3 visits a week to the gym, or your home gym, which I prefer to be honest. Less idiots giving bad advice if you train alone, or just with a mate or two!
WHO YOU ARE
The chances are that if you picked up this book then you are the typical skinny guy that doesn't have much meat on their frame. Slim, scrawny, and maybe with a little bit of excess weight around the belly, but not a great deal.
It's a very common situation, and totally frustrating, right?
The good news is that at least we aren't fat, and that is a blessing. Better to start our adventure being slim than having to deal with weight loss first.
Skinny men often struggle to gain an ounce of weight, they seem to find it impossible. And many believe that they are never going to be able to gain weight and transform their looks. The reality is that you can gain weight, and you will, by following the the recommendations in this book.
The bottom line is that it comes down to gradually upping your calorie intake in the right way until you are gaining at a steady rate. Many struggle with their appetite, and feel that they already consume way more than they need to in order to get heavier. I can tell you now that if you are still skinny then you are simply not eating enough, and not enough of the right foods.
When I was young I had to consume insane amounts of food to put on weight, but the more I realized what was needed, and actually implemented it, a funny thing started to happen.
My metabolism adjusted, and yours will too. You reach a tipping point and then all that food you are stuffing into your face begins to actually have an effect. And then we enter the danger zone.
We then go from being a skinny dude to one that needs to maybe cut back on what we eat, as we have changed our metabolism, and it now doesn't run quite as fast. But don't worry, that is some time away yet, all we need to worry about at first is finding the right way to eat that maximizes gaining muscle mass and lean gains, and we will do exactly that real soon.
THE SKINNY FAT GUY
Slim men are usually pretty close to being skinny fat. And this is a look that can be changed, thankfully, right?
You are probably slim, or even scrawny, with a little extra around the waist, if not then lucky you. A total lack of muscle under the skin means that even when pretty scrawny you still don't have any kind of definition at all. You are thin but fat at the same time. Nothing stands out, nothing looks ripped or shredded, you are just thin but with a pretty thick layer of fat under the skin at the same time.
It sounds like a contradiction but this is the norm for a lot of guys. No muscle definition, a slight wobble on the waist, and scrawny everywhere else.
You may not fit exactly into this category, no matter, The bottom line is that even if you are skinny you probably don't have good muscle definition, as you don't actually have much in the way of muscle in the first place.
The approach is going to be fairly similar for skinny guys as skinny fat guys, as well as hardgainers, as you will
