Introduction
Potatoes - Potatoes, Solanum, tuberosum, is a plant species belonging to the family Solanaceae.
The mature plant once a year and consists of fleshy tubers that grow in the ground, and these are to be the edible part that we all eat. The plant's leaves are pinnate, green and rough. To germinate the plant potato needs to temperate climates and very fertile land. The first country of origin was Latin America especially Chile and Peru. Spread, then, in our continent at the beginning of the seventeenth century from Spanish explorers who brought here the roots. The name of the plant, potato, comes from the Caribbean batata
which indicates the sweet potato.
In nature we can find different varieties. We have the yellow potato, white potato, the red and the novella.
In the kitchen, this tuber, besides being a side dish, is also used in the dough for homemade pasta such as gnocchi, or for pastries and souffle. Tasty recipes with potatoes may be the famous gateau potato Neapolitan timbale prepared gratin with potatoes and mozzarella or potatoes to the chef. But these are just the most famous dishes because the potatoes give birth to an endless array of side dishes and early.
Small curiosity: potatoes contain a lot of water, minerals and vitamins. They are very useful against hypertension due to the presence of potassium and are recommended to those who have anemia. Diabetics, however, must be careful not to abuse it.
