    About the author

    I have been Paleo since April 2013 and I’m in it for life! I used to believe I was healthy. After all I ate brown bread, brown rice, margarine, diet yogurt, low fat milk and cut the fat off my meat just like we are all told. But a few health issues for my family and myself made me start to question and go searching for answers.

    I don’t believe Paleo is a diet. It is a way of eating and a lifestyle that just makes so much sense and it works! I’m a few years short of 40 and I have never felt so healthy in all my life. I have dropped 12kg and now with a waist measurement of 71cm, I’ve lost the ‘un-losable’ post baby belly. More importantly for me however, my back pain, headaches, sinus, dark moods, carb/sugar crazy hungry moods, weird skin markings, monthly cramps and PMS have all disappeared. My energy has increased, brain fog has lifted, cravings are gone, sleep has improved, and I didn’t get a cold or flu all winter. I’m a much calmer and happier person.

    Paleo and sharing my learning and experiences has become my passion. I live in Western Sydney, NSW, Australia. I’m a working mother, wife, sister, daughter and friend. I want to help reverse the frightening health statistics of my local community through empowering people to take responsibility for their own health and then inspiring those around them. I have a strong belief in the ripple effect.

    Introduction

    PALEO. You have heard about it and you want to give it a go, but it all seems overwhelming. You are not sure about where to start or what to do. Some people like to jump in with both feet and make all the changes at once. However most prefer to take a big lifestyle change one step at a time… transitioning to Paleo over a few months or longer.

    Aussie Paleo Step by Step breaks Paleo into little achievable and sustainable steps. With checklists provided, you can tick off as you transition to a cleaner and healthier way of living making the process just that little bit easier.

    The steps in Checklist #1 cover the transition to gluten free (the true way, not the food industry’s ‘gluten-free’ way) and the replacing of many common processed foods with real wholefoods. It also introduces important Paleo lifestyle factors for health and wellbeing.

    Checklist #2 builds on from the first with steps for going totally grain free and even cleaner eating and living.

    Checklist #3 is for those that have been Paleo for a while and want further ways to nourish and heal their bodies.

    Each step is based on my own learning and personal experience. I strongly encourage you to research the 'whys' behind each step for yourself as you go.

    Read through all the notes and tips before you start and refer back to them throughout your Paleo journey.

    What is Paleo?

    Paleo/Primal/Wholefoods whatever you wish to call it is all about going back to how humans used to eat before agriculture and the food industry manipulated and ‘manufactured’ our food.

    Paleo is about nourishing your body with real, clean, nutrient dense foods that are kind on the digestion. Equally important, Paleo is about eliminating the modern ‘food’ that is causing inflammation and poor gut health, often a root cause of many of the degenerative diseases and autoimmune conditions.
