Meditation and its Common Misconceptions
Meditation has been proven to be one of the best healers in its own spiritual, emotional form. A lot has been written about the history of meditation. The term comes from the Hindu mythology DHYANA
that means to meditate. Most people think meditation is easy, and that it is a simple relaxation technique that involves just sitting and closing your eyes. Others think it is a simple way for stress relief by forgetting the external world, but in reality, it is not true.
Meditation, a commonly heard word, is practiced in different areas. It has now become a very helpful mind exercise technique for many people. In the simplest form, meditation is a practice whereby your mind is focused on a single object. This can be a sound, a form, your breath, or the mind itself. After some training and practice, your awareness of the present moment increases. In this present moment, you mind is still. As a result, it has no stress and it is relaxed. This is the main reason so many spiritual leaders promote meditation as a means for spiritual growth.
Meditation was started by philosophers as religious work and a spiritual exercise. Meditation is a way for yogis to experience the ultimate reality or the Truth
. It has been practiced in Hinduism and Buddhism as ‘dhyana’ for hundreds of years. It is also practiced in the Jewish faith as ‘kabbalah’ and in the Christian faith as ‘hesychasm’. Among Muslims it is practiced as ‘sufism’. So, Meditation has a long history around the world.
