    Foreword

    By Mexico Mike

It is refreshing to read an RV travel book written by young truck campers. Most RV camping books are written by older folks in bigger rigs. There’s nothing wrong with being older or being able to afford a big rig.

It gives me hope for the future to see that there are still young people who are willing to exit the fast lane of the 9-5 world and meander down the slow road of the traveling RV lifestyle.

Truck campers are different than folks in motorhomes. They can go places and have experiences drivers of large RV’s can’t. But they are all part of the RV’ing brotherhood. Even those with the biggest and most luxurious motorhomes or longest trailers can benefit from the facts given, attitudes expressed and the practical advice given in this book. Being younger than the average RV’er, the authors approach traveling with a different mindset that’s refreshing.

Jorn and his wife Haichong wouldn’t allow themselves to be engulfed by all the negativity produced by people who have not been to Mexico. This book is a product of their refusal to give into the fear that permeates American culture. Despite the naysayers who told them that Mexico and Central America were dangerous, they followed their hearts and dreams. Ignoring those who said they would be found dead on the highway, they took off with their dog for Mexico and Central America.

If, for no other reason, this is a worthwhile book to show how two people who don’t speak Spanish and who’d never driven to Mexico before were able to overcome their fears, meet wonderful people and safely journey all the way to Central America and back. They returned with wonderful memories, a new appreciation of another culture and not one bullet hole in their rig.

It is a shame that Jorn and Haichong didn’t contact me before their trip. I believe that my road logs and trip advice would have saved them some disappointments caused by outdated info and my cultural explanations would have made their trip even richer. Even without my sage advice based on 40+ years of driving Mexico, they had a marvelous journey of discovery. I am honored that they asked to write this introduction.
