    Training a dog is a lifetime commitment. Puppies must be taught the house rules. They must learn where they can pee or poop, not to chew on shoes and furniture, and most importantly not to bite the hand of their owners.
    Before the puppy reaches his first year, it must already have mastered basic commands like sit, stay, come and drop it. The young dog must understand that it is not allowed to steal food from the kitchen counter, or bark excessively at night. He must be taught how to play well with other dogs, and how to be gentle with children.
    By the time the dog reaches his maturity, he must be willing to learn new commands from his owner that stimulate physical and mental activity. Owners must be open to other exercise options aside from walking the dog on a leash. By this point, the dog must have grown in such a way that his owner can trust his to play in a dog park off leash.
    All these phases of dog training will be tackled in this book. In addition, training methods like the Koehler method, Alpha Male theory, and positive reinforcement will be discussed in a separate chapter. Dog psychology and pack behavior will also be explored in another chapter before basic and advanced training techniques are discussed.
    By the time you are finished reading this book, you will have gained enough knowledge on how to train your dog to be the best canine companion for you, and your family.

    Why is it important to train your dog?
    This question is often asked by first-time dog owners. Why must they spend time and effort training their dog? After all, most dogs often end up being caged or left to roam in an enclosed area, so why must anyone exert extra work to make their dogs understand basic commands and house rules?
    There are a number of good reasons why all dog owners should take time out of their schedules, no matter how busy, to train their dog.

    Harmony in the Pack
    Dogs, like their wolf ancestors, are used to working and living with a pack. Think of the pack like a small cohesive military unit. Dogs work better when they are consistently given rules and orders to abide. Training gives the dog an opportunity to learn what it should and should not do. It also helps the owner establish that his word is law, and that the dog would do well to obey its owner.
