    Introduction

    The Mediterranean diet is an approach to nutrition that closely follows the dietary practices of the people of the Mediterranean region, most specifically, Italy, Greece and Spain. It is believed that following a high-fiber, low-fat diet centered on foods from this part of the world will have dramatic benefits to your health, including, lower cholesterol, better brain function, improved heart health, less aches and pains in the muscles and joints and better control over weight.

    Scientific studies into this eating plan have shown that when people follow this diet they have a longer life expectancy and lower rates of chronic diseases like cancer, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s when compared to people who do not. This is an incredibly healthy way to eat and a diet that your entire family can enjoy.

    So what kinds of foods can you enjoy?

    The classic staples of the Mediterranean diet include lots of seafood, whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, olive oil and low fat dairy products.
