I LOVE THIS STORY! My daughter insists we read it every night at bed time! It has beautiful illustrations and the text is very creative as it wraps around the pictures. I like how it explores different animals and habitats and shows how the mother animals protecting their babies. I would share this book with students pre-k to second. The words are big and easy to read, and it could also be used to teach rhyme and rhyming words. The illustrations are absolutely amazing and I think students would love this heartwarming story as much as I do!

With a delightful rhyming text that is meant to both entertain and reassure - "Then should the oceans roar and rise / and dark clouds race across the skies / I'd hold you tight and close and warm / and keep you safe all through the storm. / If thunder tore the night in two / and lightning played at peekaBOO, / we'd watch the storm pass overheard, / then curl up safe and snug in bed." - and colorful watercolor and ink illustrations in her trademark style, Debi Gliori's Stormy Weather is a charming bedtime book, ideally suited for soothing childhood fears, when the weather outside is stormy. The creator of No Matter What - one of my all-time favorite reassurance tales - Gliori triumphs again in this lovely follow up, which seems to feature the same foxy parent-child duo. I simply adore Gliori's artwork, which somehow manages to be entirely cute - I loved all the images of parent animals enfolding their offspring in protective embraces - without ever being precious. The color palette she uses work is deep, and the overall effect of the illustrations enchanting - paired with the reassuring narrative, this book is a winner!

"Around the world, little animals of every kind cuddle up and prepare for sleep under starry skies. Although the oceans may roar and rain might fall, their parents will never be too far way to keep them safe from the stormiest of weather or the darkest of nights".The perfect bedtime book to read when the weather is stormy and rain or snow is on the horizon.

This beautiful book by a much-awarded Scottish author and illustrator will help soothe very young children on rainy or snowy nights. The various caretakers in this book represent all kinds of very lovable looking animals and other creatures, who reassure the children:"If thunder tore the night in twoand lightening played at peeka BOO,we’d watch the storm pass overhead, then curl up safe and snug in bed.”"And if that breeze became a gale –whipped leaves, snapped twigs, made branches flailI’d wrap you safely in my wingsand tell you tales of sleepy things.”The author does her own illustrations, which are delightful.

Gliori, Debi. Stormy weather. (2009). New York: Walker & Company Through the text and the illustrations, this story tells about a mother fox reading a bedtime story to her child. She reads about a series of difficult situations they might experience in nature, such as the breeze turning into a gale and the snow falling and piling up high, and for each one she tells how she will protect the baby fox. As the story progresses, the illustrations show the pictures in the book she is reading, which show other animal mothers protecting their children. This is a very comforting story, and the use of pictures from another picture book being lovingly read by a fox’s mother is imaginative. The illustrations are pained in watercolor and ink. The colors are in warm hues. The drawings are big and express both movement and comfort well. The illustrations expand on the text, helping young readers see the drama of the difficult situations and also the security mothers give to their children.
