Author

Alfred Gustave

Born with an inquisitive mind always looking for the truth, I am now sharing some of what I found. Al Gustave has been designing and creating beautiful works of art for a lifetime. It’s his passion, and you can tell. His dedicated carving studio and office in Vero Beach are filled with everything from chairs, shelving, lamps, exquisite bowls, boxes, jewelry and sculpted vases to any kind of woodworking tool an aspiring craftsman might dream of owning or using. Sixty eight years of training, experience and skill visibly honed into a man’s passion for creating art from often exotic wood foraged, turned and traded with his fellow craftsmen. Creating with his hands and thinking in three dimensions has been the cornerstone of Al’s passionate career. Growing up in Long Beach, California in the 1940’s and 50s, Al has spent a lifetime becoming a ‘Master’ of his craft. “Over the years, through experience, you learn you can make anything with wood as your medium. You know how to use all the tools and you learn all the disciplines of all the various parts of woodworking,” shares Al.

    PREFACE…

    I don’t condemn man’s many creeds

Or blame him for his many deeds,

It’s only that I take this route

Of digging out the hidden truths.

    Appreciating as I write

Of mankind’s struggle toward the light,

    That he’ll progress eventually

    To heavens without misery!

Perhaps the many things I’ll say

Will speak too much of bloody frays,

But all my words can’t half describe

The horror felt by those who’ve died.

    Realizing as they did –

They were the victims of their ID.

Plain words can never fully tell

How horrible the pits of hell,

    Or even start to half-explain

    How miserable a useless pain.

All words can do is set a scene

As background for what terror means.

I’ll only touch upon a few

    Of mankind’s many fickle views,

And try at least to dramatize

    Poetically the ancient lies.

To give some hint of why man’s wars

Really are not worth dying for.

I wouldn’t care to try and change

The little song that he’s arranged,

    For I am thoroughly convinced

Each note will find it’s recompense.

And though I wouldn’t care to sing

    I don’t begrudge them anything!

As such, I offer no advice

The truth is all that can suffice,

And I believe that every man

Must, in the end, design HIS plan.

And I have faith he will produce

    Eventually, a way of truth.

God chose the twilight to make mankind

He chose the midnight for Jesus’ time,

    He’s now composing a nocturne song …

    THE BLAST…

What is the stirring I hear in the night?

That ominous whirl in the sky

Is it some nation proclaiming its right?

To blow the population sky high?

I listen and hark to the humming,

That shatters the stillness of dawn

And wonder, if after its coming,

Who’ll live to consider it wrong!

I remember the cheers of the nations

    Parading their soldiers in line,

    And planning their own exaltation,

    Condoned this expression of crime!

    Who, writing such virtuous statements

    As Solomon never could write,

Disguised all their motives of hate men

To something like virtue and light.

Who, parroting words at a table,

    Where statesmen divided the world,

Abandoned all things good and stable

And discarded the rarest of pearls.

    They, having divided,

And purred to their citizens, War!

    Then, claiming the people decided,

Pursued their mad schemes all the more!

And the people. The poor little people,

Trading sight for the late T.V. show,

And their sense of direction to steeples

Mere puppets who dangle in tow.

Who pray, "help the leaders who lead us

And give them the wisdom to see,

That we will be there when they need us

    To do anything they decree"

    .

That blast! It’s too late to consider

Some other path open to trod,

For the vengeance of warfare is bitter

    In direct opposition to God!

Prayers said in tongues will not matter

Or cause any change or retreat,

    For complacency chooses to splatter

It’s users abroad in white heat!

    THE SHIPS OF STATE...

The ships of state have always sailed

    Upon the blood of man,

    With cargos manifested HELL,

    And every trip well planned.

The common men who filled the holes

    Could not escape their chains,

For crews were taught to whip their souls
