The Other Side of Suicide - Richard Ford
Living!
Introduction
SUICIDE
Statistics show that over 34,000 people in the United States die by suicide every year. That means that there are tens of thousands of people directly or indirectly affected by suicide.
Those left to deal with the effects are called SURVIVORS.
Every day left with the task of trying to continue in life with a tsunami of emotions.
Suicide is ranked among the top fifteen causes of death in the United States. Every fifteen minutes a person dies by suicide. Every day ninety people take their own life.
It is estimated that ninety percent of those who die by suicide have a diagnosable psychiatric disorder at the time of their death.
Psychiatric disorder? A deep emotional issue in their life! This subject is what we will target as we journey into this area called suicide.
Suicide is said to be the fifth leading cause of death among those 5-14 years old. Among 15-24 years old it is the third leading cause of death. When I read these statistics my heart cried, How can this be, they are just kids?
Statistics continue, breaking down age groups even above 70 years of age.
Suicide knows no barriers! It crosses all boundaries: age, gender, race, culture, religion. Every aspect of life is affected.
Suicide feeds upon depression. Depression is what I call SOUL TRAUMA,
emotions under attack!
LISTEN!
Listen to the silent voices:
*Why do I feel so alone and helpless?
*There is no way out!
*I can't take it anymore!
*No one understands or cares!
*How much pressure do they think I can take?
*I don't know why they don't love me!
*Why did I do that? I am so ashamed. I hope no one finds out!
*I will never be happy!
*I might as well kill myself!
*I would be better off dead!
*I will end it all!
SUICIDE!
A door has been opened!
A plan has been set into motion!
A shot rings out with the final pull of a trigger!
A hand full of pills is swallowed with the last
drink of water!
A rope, belt, a cord snaps tight with the last step!
SUICIDE!
There are many web-sites representing multitudes of organizations equipped to help recognize the risk factors and warning signs of suicide, as well as assist those in the aftermath of suicide. Please take the time to review these sites!
You may say, We have never had a suicide in our family!
Thank God, but all of us still need to be prepared and alert to the signs that warn us that something is not right in the life of someone we care about.
God help us to be sensitive and watchful to those around us!
I know that you care, that's why you hold this book in your hand! My prayer is that as we journey together on the subject of suicide, when we end this journey you will be better equipped to stand against this demonic force that has invaded the soul of humanity.
It is a horrible, heart-breaking subject; yet, one that must be addressed.
Together we will be shocked at its horror. We will cry at its effects. But, we will end with victory. Victory? Yes victory!
We will be equipped to hear the silent cry of the soul and be prepared to step in and change the course that depression and hopelessness has set them on!
We will become agents of hope, vessels of mercy and grace; reaching out to those who have found themselves in this tragedy of life. With love and understanding we will give them hope, with hope they will find peace.
My desire, my cry is that someone who has found themselves on this terrible journey will find the peace that passes all human understanding that only Jesus can give.
My deepest cry is that someone who may be considering setting this journey in motion will stop and look at the other side of suicide, and immediately turn off the road of self-destruction and realize that life is worth living, no matter what!
SUICIDE
IT STOPS HERE! IT STOPS NOW!
Chapter 1
In The Beginning!
The first words in the Bible are In the beginning God...
All of humanity is created by God, in the image and likeness of God. Not the outside! The inside!
God is not black, white, brown, red, or any other outer appearance of man. God is a spirit; all of humanity are spirit beings, housed in a physical body for life on this earth
IN THE BEGINNING God’s plan for mankind was to live in perfect harmony with Him. No tears, no sorrow, no sickness, no pains, no hurts; nothing but perfect peace and harmony.
TROUBLE!
Trouble came, according to religion, when the woman listened to the voice of the enemy rather than to God.
It’s the woman’s fault! Is it? What about the man? Where was he? God gave the man the position of responsibility and authority to watch over and keep His creation in perfect harmony.
TROUBLE!
The man said it's the woman's fault!
The woman said it's the serpent's fault!
Both are correct. It's a combination of both! The will of man and the power of the devil. A deadly combination!
IN THE BEGINNING!
Happy birthday! Which one? The first! Pick up any photo album, video recording from any family. It's filled with our family memories: baby pictures, toddlers, teens, young adults, marriages, more kids, etc.
Family! You've got one, I've got one! Everybody has one! Family, made up of every personality that can be imagined. Some are great, some not so great. Yet, family nonetheless! Agreements, disagreements, yet family! Families are not perfect, but
