About this ebook
From the South Downs Way to Offa’s Dyke, from the Thames Path to the Norfolk Coast Path, from Pembrokeshire to the West Highlands, there are big walks here to keep you rambling all year round. And what better way to discover the landscapes of Great Britain, from green and gentle dales to majestic mountains and rugged cliffs?
An indefatigable walker, David Bathurst has unlaced his boots to produce this invaluable companion to the fifteen best-loved long-distance footpaths of Great Britain. His appreciation of the beauty and history of the British countryside and his light-hearted style will appeal to novice and experienced walkers alike.
This comprehensive guide to the best big walks offers detailed descriptions of the trails and a wealth of geographical, historical and practical information, including route maps and places of interest along the way.
David Bathurst
David Bathurst was born in Guildford in 1959 and has enjoyed writing and walking throughout his adult life. He has walked all the principal long-distance paths in Great Britain, and his guide to walking these routes, entitled The Beaten Track, was published by Summersdale in 2001. He has written nine other books, including a guide to walking the coastline of Sussex which appeared in 2002, as well as books on children’s literature and the work of magistrates’ courts. David’s chief claim to fame is his recitation of all four Gospels from memory in a single day in 1998, and he recited the Book of Psalms, the longest book of the Bible, from memory in one day in 2002. By profession he is a legal adviser to the magistrates sitting at Chichester and Worthing. He lives in Barnham in West Sussex with his wife Susan and daughter Jennifer Rose.
