British Weekend Jaunts: Tour 6 - 4 Days Discovering Northumberland’s Coastal Areas - Alnwick to Berwick On Tweed
()
About this ebook
A travel guide book with a difference which gives a well planned 4 day, 3 location tour by car, through the beautiful wild untamed scenery of Northumberland taking the reader on a journey through time, visiting magnificent castles, remote Islands including Lindisfarne, fortified towns including Berwick On Tweed and Alnwick, the pretty unspoilt villages of Craster, Ford and Etal, wildlife havens and the battlefield of Flodden. For birdwatchers and wildlife lovers alike, as well as those looking to follow in the footsteps of St Cuthbert and St Aiden Northumberland is a delight.
When I think of Northumberland it stirs memories of peaceful golden sandy beaches, rolling hills, sheer cliffs and untamed rugged moorland with wildlife in abundance. I think of romantic castles, ancient battlefields and fortified towns, every place with its own heritage and tale to tell. Gastronomic delights of fresh fish and seafood await the visitor as does stunning views and an excellent variety of sporting activities. Above all, as found in the North of England, there’s always a friendly welcome from the locals in this county which has more to offer the visitor than you would expect.
This illustrated ebook gives directions, maps, location information & travel tips used by the author.
In these hard times do you fancy going on a “weekend jaunt” to cheer yourself up, touring around some of the attractions this lovely country of ours has to offer, staying in multiple locations, but thought it too hard to organise?
Are you looking for a new kind of travel/guide book? Or perhaps you are planning a first trip to Britain, and are looking for a short tour guide which will give you a taste of what Britain has to offer, outside of London? Perhaps one which gives:
* A well planned 4 day multiple location tour in the mysterious county of Northumberland, which you can customise and enjoy at your own pace.
* Detailed information on how to organise your own weekend jaunt (travel, accommodation, visitor attractions, location history and information, etc.)
* Tips on how to keep costs down whist away and website addresses to visit to obtain best value for money deals and promotions.
* Gives daily itinerary’s to maximise the time spent in each location which you can follow, or tailor to suit yourself.
* Has maps, pictures and information on locations and attractions (including address, opening times, web address, how to get there, history &/or other pertinent information)
* All the information required in one book rather than having to purchase and carry, several city /town different guides whilst on your Weekend Jaunt
* Is suitable for all age groups and nationalities (particularly long haul visitors wishing to see as much of Britain as they can in a limited timescale, but not wanting to join a group arranged tour).
* Armchair traveller information and website addresses to enable them to “virtually” undertake the tour and visit attractions on line, if they cannot visit them in person.

Caroline Preston has always had a love of literature, history, the arts, travel, bargain hunting and adventure and was delighted she was able to bring all her interests together whilst writing her travel and collecting ebooks. In addition to her travel and collector guides she has also written comedy sketches, plays, newsletters and articles.Although it may look mysterious, the Y in her name does not stand for anything in particular and is there merely to distinguish her from several other authors also named Caroline Preston.Caroline brings her British Northern “no nonsense, down to earth, can do, concise approach” to everything she does, including going on holiday! Which is partly the reason why her “Grand Tour” "City Breaks" and "British Weekend Jaunt" books are so useful. She has been fortunate to travel extensively in Europe and lived in Brittany, France during the mid 1980’s. Caroline currently lives in the North of England. She very much hopes you will enjoy her eBooks and have as much fun on your “Grand Tours” "City Breaks" and "British Weekend Jaunts" as she did on hers; and that her collector books help those starting out with their collections.

Chapter 1 – British Weekend Jaunts (At Petit Cost!) Overview
This ebook is a chapter from my larger book British Weekend Jaunts (At Petit Cost!)
and has been produced to enable readers to purchase an individual tour from the book which they can take with them, and refer to, whilst on tour.
The ebook was written at the request of my friends and colleagues who asked me for details of short holidays I had put together for myself within the UK, as they too wanted a different kind of holiday from those currently on offer. With the current economic climate more of us are choosing to holiday at home and wanting to discover, sometimes for the first time, some of the beautiful cities and locations Britain has to offer. I also felt that my travel books may be of use to some of the many international visitors coming to Britain, possibly for the first time.
This particular tour starts and ends in the UK and uses the travellers own means of transport, so international travellers wishing to follow the tour will also have to factor in airfare and car hire costs to their overall financial calculations.
Other books in this series include:-
* Tour 1 - 4 Days Touring Snowdonia & the Llŷn Peninsula, North Wales
* Tour 2 - 4 Days Touring The English Lake District, Cumbria
* Tour 3 - 2 Days Discovering The Pendle Witch Trail (Pendle & Lancaster)
* Tour 4 - 4 Days Discovering Bristol, Bath & North Somerset (Wells, Glastonbury, Cheddar Gorge)
* Tour 5 - 4 Days Discovering The Towns, Cities & Villages Of The English Cotswolds & Stratford-Upon-Avon
I feel the tours in the Weekend Jaunts (At Petit Cost!)
series of ebooks are a breath of fresh air in that:
* Unlike some other travel books the individual tours were all planned and conducted on a very tight budget, using discount accommodation deals, promotions and vouchers, all of which would appeal to today’s cost conscious viewers.
* Each tour is multi locational and puts together destinations you may not normally find together; additionally some of the tours visit sites and other attractions which are off the beaten track
and not usually visited by tourists giving a holiday which is a little different. A couple of the tours also have underlying themes i.e. following in the footsteps of the Romans or short picturesque steam train journeys.
* For the inexperienced traveller sites and attractions at each location within the tour are grouped together, ensuring that maximum cost and timescale benefits are achieved.
* It gives the viewer information on how to put together a Weekend Jaunt
themselves (including transportation, accommodation, venues to visit, venue information and the best web sites to consult, etc) and how to customise a tour to their own requirements.
* The tours are suitable to all age groups and nationalities (particularly long haul visitors wishing to see as much of Britain as they can in a limited timescale, but not wanting to join a group arranged tour).
* The tours can be made by Single travellers, couples, families and group travellers as well as people working within the travel industry looking for different ideas. Additionally virtual travellers can follow the tours from their armchairs by looking up the cities/towns, attractions and venues on their computer should they wish.
* The tours do not have to be taken over a weekend and can start and finish on any day you choose. Additionally the tours can be undertaken at any time of year although if taking them between October and March please bear in mind the British weather conditions and reduced daylight hours.
